why is it so acceptable for people to message and email each other and use only partial words? it's so unprofessional ,feels almost disrespectful and just looks plain ignorant. for example"i think dat B da truth, cuz its what evry1 thinkz anywayz."
is the education system failing everyone so badly? or is that the cool thing to do now?...look like an idiot, get more street cred?

Yeah, it is about as bad as not using the shift key for capital letters or clicking the Preview button and then not previewing what you typed.

It's only "acceptable" in casual situations (outside of work). I hate it though, use proper grammar! And yes, some of it is the education system and some of it is society as a whole. If you notice the age group that uses words and phrases like that, you'll see what I mean. My 14 year old step son, who is as white as they get, talks and writes that way, it makes him feel cool and accepted. I think it makes him look ignorant and stupid, but you can't tell that to people who use this type of vernacular. People think I am being condescending in the way I speak because I'm 25 and I have good grammar, spelling and a great vocabulary; I just don't want to sound like a back woods redneck or a wigger and there is nothing wrong with that. Who over the age of 21 cares about street cred? It should be much more important to have good English skills so that you can get and keep a job.

I cannot stand this new "IM-ing" stuff. It should stay where it eminated, on the phones! Our precious language has suffered enough over the last years, since the development of the internet, especially... starting with "chat-talk."

Some informality is one thing, but the total DEVASTATION of the language is quite another. I don't care if it's COOL, KEWL, BAD, or GOOD!!! It's WRONG (or is "wrong" the new "RIGHT" these days!!??).

It shows 1-lack of respect for the language, 2-laziness on the part of the "users," and 3-not merely a lowering of standards, but a bottoming-out of standards.

If we do not continue to insist on proper English... regardless of which side of the "Puddle" we're on, all will be lost to these lazy, disrespectful bums of the language.

Have a polite day.

Also used as a sense of humor...a little color.
A type of shorthand.
