If I look in other YA sections I don't find nearly the volume of antagonism toward anything as much as I find antagonism here. Why expend so much effort and time trying to disprove something you don't believe in? It kind of makes you wonder who or what is influencing these people, doesn't it? Maybe there's no stronger evidence that Satan exists than what we read right here in Religion and Spirituality.

I've been thinking. I am angry with the christian religion. Why? Well because I believed in this crap so long only to find out it really is bull. And I am angry I ever believed it in the first place. I feel like I lost money that I never really had.

I felt the same way when I was told that Santa was not real. I was angry because I would not get anymore presents from him. Even though he was never real to begin with.

So should I have never been told there was a Santa?
Would that have been better?

What do you think?
Yesterday I received my Marie Claire issue and there is a six page story on "Erasing Ethnicity." The stories were informative and surprising. I was surprised to read that many people around the world, specially women, believe that white/western features are more beautiful.

I believe you should embrace who you are. Be proud of your ethnicity. Be proud of the shape of your eyes, your lips, hair, body, eye color and skin color.

"Diversity is what makes the world beautiful."

my pastors talked about how you shouldnt date someone who isnt the same religion as you. My pastor said break up with him. I told my best friend, who was there that i dont want to stop dating him.The other thing he is a weak wiccan. like he doesnt really follow his religion at all.. hes just there. he used to be a hardcore christian growing up and then the church offended him and i dont know why so he went to wiccan, which he really doesnt follow it. he is also a marine and hes in iraq right now. when i talk to him its only once a month for 5 minutes. so to break up with him while hes in iraq is harsh and mean. which i would never do. i want to talk to him about it when he gets home, not break up but talk. whereas my best friend wants me to do break up with him now because she says its sinning until he gets home because were "unequaly yoked."i love this man and i refuse to leave him. it doesnt bother me that hes not a christian but it does my best friend. should i leave my boyfriend?

This priestess asked Zeus to help the Toronto soccer team score in today's game.

"Hear me as I ask your blessings on this stadium, where bold men will strive on the morrow to wrest victory in the field.

"May their efforts delight your eyes. Let their battle be glorious, yet grant safety to these men in their exertions.

"And (this is the biggie), let those who behold the contest see many goals over which to raise their voices in wild cheers of approval."

What do you think of the prayer? And the story itself ? (if you read it)

So many of us see it as an opportunity to attack the questioner in a personal way. Why do so few of us stop to consider that a good question is a good question and perhaps the one who posted it is actually exposing the subtleties in such a way as to stimulate interest in the actual inquiry instead of trying to pick a fight?

Some Protestants like to use 2 Timothy 3:16-17 as a "proof-text" that Sola Scriptura is a Biblical principle.....

Second Epistle Of Saint Paul To Timothy
Chapter 3
16 All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice, 17 That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.

"All scripture,"... Every part of divine scripture is certainly profitable for all these ends. But, if we would have the whole rule of Christian faith and practice, we must not be content with those Scriptures, which Timothy knew from his infancy, that is, with the Old Testament alone: nor yet with the New Testament, without taking along with it the traditions of the apostles, and the interpretation of the church, to which the apostles delivered both the book, and the true meaning of it.

Douay Rheims Bible

Same verse from KJV:

2 Timothy 3:16–17.
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteous- ness; That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

An examination of the verse in context shows that it doesn’t claim that at all; it only claims Scripture is "profitable" (Greek: ophelimos) that is, helpful. Many things can be profitable for moving one toward a goal, without being sufficient in getting one to the goal. Notice that the passage nowhere even hints that Scripture is "sufficient"—which is, of course, exactly what Protestants think the passage means.

Paul laying down a guideline for Timothy to make use of Scripture and tradition in his ministry as a bishop. Paul says, "But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God (Greek: theopneustos = "God-breathed"), and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Tim. 3:14–17). In verse 14, Timothy is initially exhorted to hold to the oral teachings—the traditions—that he received from the apostle Paul. This echoes Paul’s reminder of the value of oral tradition in 1:13–14, "Follow the pattern of the sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus; guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us" (RSV), and ". . . what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2:2). Here Paul refers exclusively to oral teaching and reminds Timothy to follow that as the "pattern" for his own teaching (1:13). Only after this is Scripture mentioned as "profitable" for Timothy’s ministry.

The few other verses that might be brought up to "prove" the sufficiency of Scripture can be handled the same way. Not one uses the word "sufficient"—each one implies profitability or usefulness, and many are given at the same time as an exhortation to hold fast to the oral teaching of our Lord and the apostles. The thing to keep in mind is that nowhere does the Bible say, "Scripture alone is sufficient," and nowhere does the Bible imply it.
