Do you pray for our leaders even though you may not agree with what they have done

THAT....is the VERY reason WHY we are to PRAY for our leaders. If we are to 'love our enemies', then why not pray for those who need it most? Prayer is powerful; trusting YHWH is essential. And yes- it is scriptural to pray for our governing leaders.
1st Timothy 2:1-6:::::::>>>>>>>>
"¶ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for ALL MEN; For KINGS, and for ALL THAT ARE IN AUTHORITY; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time¶"

***What kinds of prayers does Paul suggest we make for others?
Requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving! He leaves nothing out! The Greek implies "every kind of prayer." Commentators suggest that these are inclusive and refer to our public prayers when gathered as a body as well as our private prayers in times of personal devotion.

Requests—Asking in prayer for favor or for a specific concern.
Prayer—a broad term, referring to all communication with the Lord.
Intercession—requests we make on behalf of others or ourselves.
Thanksgiving—offering of gratitude and appreciation to God.

Paul is specifically including all kinds of prayers for all persons, not to allow us to pray with generality—"Lord, bless everyone everywhere"—but to impress on us the importance our prayers carry and to compel us to make them specific. By leaving nothing out, Paul reminds us that we must be praying in every way --f-o-r-- those in AUTHORITY over us!***

Our Prayers Bless and Bring Change
John Calvin in his commentary on theses verses implies that as public servants, our leaders are giving of themselves and sacrificing for our well-being. Their sacrifice surely warrants a return of some kind on our part. He suggests the payback is prayer. That prayer is the "thank you" that leaders get from serving in societies where Christians are active. What an incredible blessing! What could God do with such an economy if we all followed this injunction? What difference might it make in your town, your city or your state? What difference could it make in our country, if you prayed with Paul's passion for our President?

Conclusion
With his characteristic intensity, the Apostle Paul has given us a wealth of instruction, encouragement and promised results if we will obey his teaching as a body and as individuals. Though he speaks of the outcome in the life of the church—godliness, holiness, and a winsome witness that is bound to draw others—what outcomes can you imagine in America if more of us were praying every day for our President and our leaders?

Suggested Follow-Up Activities
Take a few moments to pray now for the leaders for whom you feel the greatest burden. Pray requests, intercessions and thanksgiving. Paraphrase these two verses, putting them into your own words.

Additional Scripture
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. --Jeremiah 29:7***

God Bless you and your inquiry.....amen!

Yes I pray for the President, and all our Government Leaders. There is the Presidential Prayer Team .com and you may join if you wish, we pray for the Current President, and will be praying for the Next President, who is elected, even if we have different views. Such as we may be Republicans, but will be praying for a Democrat if he is elected President. We Pray for our Country as well and our Troops. If that sounds like something you will like to do

Of course not.

I think it would be a bit silly of me to pray at all but who the hell is gonna pray for the president and for the prime minister of Iran at the same time?

Praying for leaders is harmless because it doesnt do anything but I don't think you should support a leader who you don't agree with. Patriotism isn't blind obedience to whoever is in charge - isnt that just like saying if you were a German in 1939 you'd be cheering for Hitler even if you thought he was a jerk?

Especially if you don't agree!

You pray that God would guide his decisions, and that he would make wise decisions that would benefit the entire country.

Praying for our leaders is not about agreeing with them, but rather wanting God to take charge, even if they don't realize or acknowledge it.

Proverbs 21:1 says that the king's heart (ie the president in our case) is in the hands of the Lord, and like water, He can turn it any way He wants."

Yes, in fact, I do pray for our leaders. And lots of times I don't agree with their politics. But that is okay.

Many folks quote this verse without reading further to see the reason why.

1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; .........

Now, WHY?

........that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

In other words, we should pray for them so their decision do not effect our ability to worship God. Not so they can be guided to go blow up Iraq.

The Bible says that God puts those people over us. I know that sometimes you wonder though. Remember David would not harm King Saul because he said God put King Saul over Israel. I to think we should cover our leaders with prayer for God to lead them and that they make the right decisions. Peace and God bless

You should always pray for others even if you don't think they deserve it. I have struggled with this sense of justice myself for a long time, but many friends have reminded me that one should always pray for the salvation of others.

definite. a million Timothy 2 (Amplified Bible) 1FIRST OF all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be presented on behalf of all adult males, 2For kings and all who're in positions of authority or extreme duty, that [outwardly] we could bypass a quiet and undisturbed existence [and inwardly] a non violent one in each of godliness and reverence and seriousness in each way. 3For such [praying] is stable and precise, and [that's] beautiful and proper to God our Savior, 4Who needs all adult males to be stored and [progressively greater] to locate and understand and parent and recognize precisely and proper the [divine] actuality. 5For there [is in basic terms] one God, and [basically] one Mediator between God and adult males, the guy Christ Jesus,

Mr. Bush and his cronies do not count as leaders, in my opinion. Nor do I recognize Mr. Bush as the legitimate office-holder, as he obtained and retained it via complete and utter fraud.

I keep him seperate from all spiritual matters so as not to pollute the experience.
