Whenever I go out with my mom and brother, people assume that me and my brother are married or dating. How can I avoid that? I'm not married and he isn't either, so there's no wedding or engagement ring.

The best bet is that you are both sending out the wrong signals in body language. This can lead to very embarrassing things best avoided.

Just tell them he's your brother. Don't the two of you look alike at all? Shouldn't people see a resemblance between the two of you? Tell these people matter of factly and firmly what is up and move on to a new topic.

Why don't you turn it around on them and have some fun? Make it all a joke and say "I hope not - he's my brother!!!" if you are asked if you are going out with him.

Another thing you could do - if you feel like someone might ask you - is to address your brother using the word "brother". You could ask a question and instead of using his name say "Oh - brother - mine - do you know the answer to this?" Or just out loudly say - "So how is my wonderful brother doing today?" Or you could ask him in a clear voice if he would kindly help his "sister" do something.

I wouldn't worry too much about this though. Just laugh it off and go on with your day. Be happy you have a brother that will hang out with you.

Correct them if they say anything of the sort. Or buy a shirt that says "He's my brother" (I'm joking) If you have a romantic interest in someone when your brother is around, make that romantic interest in that other person known. And if all that fails, just forget about it - it doesn't matter what other people think.

Simple - always introduce him to people as you brother.
