Being agnostic simply means that you don't have a clear handle on whether or not you believe in god. Maybe you see points on both sides and don't know which is correct for you.

TAHOE REALTOR doesn't know what he is talking about.

The agnostic position is stating that you do not have the knowledge to say whether or not a god or gods exist. Knowledge is the key word here.

The atheist position is a LACK of belief in a god or gods. Again, it's a LACK of belief. This is opposed to the BELIEF that a god or gods don't exist and yes, there is a difference.

A person can hold both positions, ie an agnostic atheist which indeed is what MOST atheists actually are.

Actual definitions aside....when the average person says they're agnostic, this is usually a person who used to be a Christian who is loosing their belief and just hasn't had the stones to use the word atheist. I know this because I was that way for a number of years. It's a very difficult thing to say when you are raised in a Christian environment. My girlfriend is by definition an atheist but she can't even bring herself to use the term agnostic.

This is just to affirm how damaging and scarring religious dogma can be to a person.

I am agnostic. I am seventeen too, apparently according to some people i'm too young and too ignorant blah blah blah jesus saves. But in my opinion i think that religion was formed because people are scared, scared of dying and scared of never seeing their loved ones again. They are scared not knowing, so religion was created. Agnostic is the belief that questions religion, and is more closely related to scientific reasoning for our existence. But there is some doubt there which is different from an atheist who strictly believes religion is irrelevant to life. Agnostics don't really know whats out there, and chooses to live freely believeing anything they want.

Agnostics are objectivists that do not know whether God exists or not. Atheists strictly do not believe in God. I am a Christian, but before I gave my life to God I searched to find the answers through every philosophy and religion...Jesus had a way with me like none other...I am His son and He is My God. I know Him and I know His voice. For everyone out there call upon Him and He shall lead you home.

I think agnostics are the only truly honest people. To claim to know whether or not there is a god is lying.

No, the early apostles of Jesus fought Gnostism because they claim that Jesus never came in the flesh. If that were true then that would mean he never really gave his body for us or suffered or physically died on the cross. That's why it's anti-Christian because it nullifies the cross of Christ.

The Apostle John said in 1 John 4:7,
"Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist."

Yes, and also atheist.

Agnostic vs gnostic = knowledge

Theist = belief in a god or gods.

Atheist = if you can't say you have a belief in any god or gods, you are an atheist.
