WOW!
I would never have thought to get so many reactions to my question... and such a variety! some of the answers are really interesting, thanks! I didn't mean to offend anyone, by the way...
As to stereotypes:
yes! we swiss do make the best chocolate=)!
but: we are also very boring, much too punctual and often with our heads in the clouds... also we are probably quite a nerdy population=)

Being that I am American, I don't know if I can be objective.
Be that as it may, Americans as individuals are all different. Like it is, I'm sure, in any country. To use a phrase, "it takes all types..."
But just out of fairness, let me share some stereotypes that at least THIS American has heard or been exposed to:
- French Canadian's are conceited
- The French are self-righteous
- Germans are ill-tempered and rude
- All Norwegians are blue-eyed and blonde
- Brits have a really bizarre sense of humor
And the list could go on and on.
I don't recall any stereotypes about the Swiss (which I believe you are, yes?) except that perhaps they make good chocolate.
Regards and respects

Many Americans who buy what the media is selling (9/11 Commission Report, WMD, Oswald did it, Iranian Nuk threat) can be naive/superficial and in some regions the populations are extremely conservative.
Needless to say, there are pockets of sanity in the United States, just like there are in the rest of the world. Some conservative people (ironically and unconsciously) make very good arguments against globalization. Tyranny has existed for many centuries and it's unlikely to stop any time soon.

I don't know about superficial but I hope we are still viewed as conservative. Looking at liberalism in Europe, being conservative by there standards isn't saying much.

Yes, we're all JUST alike - superficial, stupid, conservative - totally homogenous, having no variation whatsoever; we even all look exactly alike.
Sheesh; the things some people will believe.

You cant ask serious questions on this site. Were very sorry but your question will cause either a defensive response followed by an attack on your culture or a silly juvenile outburst. Sorry but thats what ive observed in the few days since dicovering this site

You can say what you want about America but the beauty is that you're free to be what you want to be, whether it's superficial, conservative, moderate, liberal, or whatever

As far as being superficial, if you're looking for it, you'll find it. I'm sure you've even been superficial once or twice (oh come on, admit it...).
As for conservative... if you mean that we ask you to please tuck in your boobies while bathing on our beaches, then yes... we are conservative.
