My sister has lost the smoky topaz from her favorite ring. The amethyst on a new necklace fell off and the bracelet I gave her fell off (it had a clasp and was not loose) 10 minutes after she put it on.....

What can be done. I know the war has caused a lot of tension, but what on earth are these people doing to their brethren in Iraq. Surely they must see that this will never never, ever ever solve the problem and the only ones getting hurted are their brothers and sisters

And get stars for it? I have been an Atheist all my life, thanks to my parents letting me choose for myself. I love life, help others less fortunate than myself & i work hard. I take responsibility for my own mistakes & never blame others &, in crisis, i never pray to what i cant see, hear, touch, taste or smell.
I think im a good, fun person to be around but... why do we Atheists cop so much crap from Religious people? I learn MY things from life experience, not from a book. I dont need a book to tell me how to drive a car or be a good parent like religious people need a book to tell them what to do, believe & preach. Dont i deserve a star like all the religious people on here get?

As a psych graduate I am astonished to see how much faith people put in modern psychology. Any psych academic worth his salt knows that psychology is a totaly crude science on par with when doctors where drilling holes in peoples heads to release the evil spirits.

Most people these days have stopped going to confessors. Yet they now go to psychologists and do exactly the same thing.

I am shocked. Just to make it clear.

Just when I had built up my confidence about humanity's intelligence... I find out that in fact a lot of people actually *believe* beyond a reasonable doubt that the bible's genesis is how the world was created.
Not to mention there are half a dozen other theories strongly believed, discarding everything else.

[Insert blank shocked face here]

Another thing I've noticed is that a load of those people either are home schooled or have been to a strict religious school. Joining with that, I have noticed that their attitude towards other ideas is - to say the least - narrow minded, whereas many of the public schooled people - catholic or otherwise - is much more open, still keeping their own beliefs.

I've always liked home schooling as opposed to public schooling, and there are a lot of good things to come from it... but certainly this does make a strong vote against home schooling.

Doesn't it?

It is said in the Dei Verbum, a dogma released by the church that Christ is both human and divine.

We all agree that humanity is subordinate to divinity. If Christ supposedly is both, then doesn't his human aspect make him somewhat less than God the Father?

And Roman Catholics even believe that the components of the Trinity are equal... :/

If Christ is both human and God, then he can't be as a whole God; making him more than a human but less than a God.

The concept of God shows a perfect being. Being human is an imperfection since we are finite beings. If Christ is human, then he can't be God!

I'm really having doubts. Can someone sort this out?

Last night on the Discovery channel I learned that at one time everything was compacted into a “infinitely small space” Everything, Stars, planets, gas, dust, everything into a very small space, Then all at once it blew up and expanded and here we are. So do I have this right? Everything compacted down to nothing, God Said “LET IT BE, BOOM (thats the sound of the big bang) and it Was? How much did we spend to find this out? I’ve known this sense Vacation Bible school as a child, and they are just now figuring it out?

I don't know about other countries, but here in Australia, if a child needs urgent blood to save its' life, the parents religous beliefs are overidden, and the child will be given blood.

So here is my question for you Jehovah's Witnesses.

Do you believe you should have the right to deny blood for your children, even in life and death situations? What is your view about the government going over your beliefs to give your children blood?

My little boy is extremely gifted. I recently read up on crystal children and just sat there saying "YES" to everything written! It describes him exactly! He's always had these huge violet eyes that seem to seeto your soul, I've had so many strangers comment on them. He always knows about things before they happen and is such a serene little boy. the doctors actually thought he was autistic at one point but I knew he wasn't.. he's just not like any other child. He can also make things move though that's only ever happened when he's been upset or afraid. I do have some abilities, reiki, crystals, tarot but because he is so much more powerful than me, I'm unsure of how I should guide him and encourage him. It'd be like trying to teach your grandmother how to suck eggs!

Mom has problems getting up from chairs. She tried using a walker, but finds she needs something that has a center bar for her to hold on to for balance and to pull herself up with. I'm not sure if anything exists? Any suggestions?

Why do Christians say this. I asked God to cure my child's leukemia, and he didn't. And spare me the "God works in mysterious ways" garbage. I wasn't asking for money or material things, but for God to spare an innocent child and all those who loved him from more suffering...and God spit in my face. WHY?????

I heard on a talk radio interview with a guy who wrote a book about homosexuality being an subconscious choice that is effected by a persons childhood. not that sexual preference was actually chosen, but ended up that way due to a persons family life as a child. now i do believe that some, even though a minority, of gays can be born with a "gay trait". but one example of external factors is the absence of a father or a father whom did not give the emotional reinforcment a daughter needs as she is maturing. a mothers influence on a daughter is to teach her to be a woman when she grows up. a fathers input is to validate what she is learning from her mother by telling her she's beautiful, her dress looks nice, etc. this is just one example of many factors that could influence a persons sexual orientation when he/she grows up. i don't think that all kids who grow up in this situation will turn up gay, i'm just asking if it's feasible that environment can determine sexual orientation?

Okay, as an ex-christian, I can say with confidence that my belief in the bible and its version of 'God' prevented me from being remotely open to other points of view. I was afraid I might find out I was wrong . . . which I did. Now, I believe in infinite possibilities- such as the origin of life, life forms on other planets, and things we haven't discovered or even thought of yet. This is not to say I accept everything I see and hear but that I'm now able to examine things without fear, and keep an open mind.

Does your belief system prevent you from exploring other possibilites unbiasedly?

My wife and I had a big fight last night over our favourite topic to fight about - family obligations. She comes from a large family and is close to them. I can't stand them and the feeling is mutual.

We have come to an uneasy truce on the official events such as weddings and funerals. They are rare and I go without complaint (as least verbally). It is the greyer areas such as parties that we disagree.

I believe that I should be able to boycott these events if I want to. I won't miss them and they won't miss me. After all, I married her; not her family.

She says that it is only an occasional thing and that I should do it as part of marital family obligations, especially because she doesn't ask often (she doesn't).

I'd like mature opinions for either side of the argument.

Thanks.

Some people have said that you should give God a certain percentage of your wages to get his blessing in full but i cannot seem to figure out what God needs with my money.
This to me seems like i am paying God for his services and that seems wrong to me.
Shouldnt God just be happy with my faith?
Whatever i give is supposed to be returned to me ten fold or something like that but i dont think its right so i dont pay God.
Am i wrong?

About 2 years ago my friend moved into a new buid house.

About a year ago she was in bed watching a film and all of a sudden she couldn't move, she said she could feel herself being phisically pinned down, she got free and tried to get down the stairs to her daughters bedroom, but she couldn't move, the next minute she was flung on the bed and woke up, so it was a dream.

Over the past 2 years similar things have happened. She has a new boyfriend that virtually lives there now, 5 days ago she was dreaming and all of a sudden couldn't breathe, she felt as though a hand was over her mouth, she realised it wasn't a hand, it was that she had no mouth, she called out to her bf and he leant over to kiss her and smiled, she started crying and he woke her up. He doesn't dream but could see her struggling.

Next night they swapped places, and for the past 3 nights he's had nightmares, woke up crying and struggles to wake up, they both sed it's comin from the right side. Help please.
