Mom has problems getting up from chairs. She tried using a walker, but finds she needs something that has a center bar for her to hold on to for balance and to pull herself up with. I'm not sure if anything exists? Any suggestions?

They have really good lifting chairs. Of course, this means that her sitting would have to be done in the same chair.

The PRICES are attrocious.

They also have a lifting cushion that they say can be moved from chair to chair....

It seems that this may be just what you need.

Not sure about the walker with the center bar but there are chairs that assist with getting up - they have a motor and the seat slowly rises. This might not fix the entire problem as it's only one chair (generally an easy chair in the livingroom or something) and sounds to me like she needs help with every chair. Here's one link I found when googling 'lift chairs': http://www.themedsupplyguide.com/lift-chairs/

Sorry, my mom at 90 can still get up so, luckily, haven't had to explore this issue but will be following this thread.

When my uncle began having strokes I got in touch with his doctor and he gave me a prescription for a lift chair--a recliner. He had it for years then mom used it. Medicare paid the entire bill. There is a walker with wheels on it that also has a seat, have a friend that is recovering from a stroke and that is what she has. Does she have a bench for the shower?? Contact the sr. center in your city and ask them if they have any donations, often they do or can direct you. Good luck.

My sisters and brother and I bought Dad a lift chair. It is a recyliner, with a remote to raise his chair up, to where he can get in and out of it more easily.
This link will take you to some pictures and information in regards to the chairs. Dad's chair has made all the difference for him.
