I heard on a talk radio interview with a guy who wrote a book about homosexuality being an subconscious choice that is effected by a persons childhood. not that sexual preference was actually chosen, but ended up that way due to a persons family life as a child. now i do believe that some, even though a minority, of gays can be born with a "gay trait". but one example of external factors is the absence of a father or a father whom did not give the emotional reinforcment a daughter needs as she is maturing. a mothers influence on a daughter is to teach her to be a woman when she grows up. a fathers input is to validate what she is learning from her mother by telling her she's beautiful, her dress looks nice, etc. this is just one example of many factors that could influence a persons sexual orientation when he/she grows up. i don't think that all kids who grow up in this situation will turn up gay, i'm just asking if it's feasible that environment can determine sexual orientation?

Homosexuality has been shown to be linked to nature without any linkage to nurture.

A scientific study published in "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" said that researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers. But the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if gay men were raised away from their biological families.

Anthony F. Bogaert, Ph.D., professor at Brock University, said "The research suggests that the development of sexual orientation is influenced before birth."

The older-brother effect was constant regardless of whether the men were raised with natural, adopted or stepbrothers. It also didn't matter if they weren't raised with their biological mothers.

If gay younger brothers and older brothers don't have the same home environments, what do they have in common? "They shared the same uterus, the same womb, the same mother," Bogaert said.

i think it's such a complex issue, and there is no one answer.....father was not there, mother too over-bearing, blah, blah, blah. I know plenty of gay people who have the perfect upbringing.....wonderful mom, wonderful dad, brothers sisters, great childhood, and guess what....they are gay.

I think there is a genetic piece to this and an environmental piece to this. If you have the predisposition to be gay in your dna, and then if A, B, C, D, E, F (not bead things either)happen at certain times in your development, the gene(s) will be triggered and you grow up a wonderful gay human being.

anything more specific than that, I have no idea. And to be perfectly honest, I could care less. I am gay. Finding out why will have no bearing on that. Lets' just move on.

i think of basically gay human beings and a few fervently professional-gay rights believe that there is a "gay gene". Many biologists and psychologists agree that it particularly is a mixture of "hormonal, environmental, and organic and organic" reasons which artwork on a point we nevertheless do no longer understand. The APA had homosexuality listed as a psychological illness till 1974 by using this acvitivist psychologist controlled to alter it. i'm no longer suggesting it particularly is a psychological illness although this is not any longer completely organic and organic. I remember a s tudy that LeVay did in 1991, they did in corpses of gay and on the instant adult men additionally with on the instant and lesbian women persons. The gay adult men had ideas structures that resemble that of on the instant women persons and with lesbians their ideas resemble on the instant men fairly in the are which controls allure (anterior hypothalamus). Why could somebody decide directly to be gay? What form of guy could prefer yet another guy to have anal intercourse with him till he did no longer prefer it? Reparative medical care does not artwork. do no longer you be responsive to the founders of an ex-gay organisation ran away jointly? additionally, a lot of those ex-gay counselors sexually assaulted their sufferers. Sexual orientation no count if or no longer this is genetic or no longer, will no longer be able to get replaced.

This guy who wrote the book what was his education? What was the scientific design of the research? Can someone else recreate his research in order to test his conclusions? Has he done research on this subject before? Were you listening to a conservative radio show with an agenda? Is he being paid to appear on this show?

Nuh its not that belive me, some people have that belief, and thats fine, Im accepting the fact that people are looking for answers about things in life they dont understand, and i understand that a straight person woudnt understand this, therefore is looking for answers, i for example cant understand promiscuous people, but being promiscuos is defenetly a choice, sexuallity is an instinct,a desire, its in the heart, its when you know you want someone, its just...it really has nothing to do with your family, i have a great family and i havent been abused, iv had a happy childhood, this is just who I've been for like forever. If im wrong, then im wrong, but what more can I do about it? Whatever has lead me to be like this, if its not something your "born with", then it has lead me, and thats my fate, and i can deny it all i want but it aint gonna go away, so i live by the motto of "just go with the flow" whatever happends, happends. :)

What causes anyone's sexual orientation whether straight bisexual gay or transgender...all are natural variations. What causes heterosexuality probably causes homosexuality. It's not a choice.
Celibacy is a choice unless due to infirmity and it is totally unnatural unlike any of the previously mentioned sexual orientations, if we were all celibate the human race would die out.

I think you're right. It's more likely that a gay person comes from a divorced home raised by the mother than have gay family in the gene pool.

My Grandfather was gay, and my boys mother turned gay. As I raised them, I kept a close watch on them with the belief that being gay was genetic. I found that it wasn't and there was no chance by boys would grow up gay.

"At the moment it is generally thought that biological explanations of sexuality are insufficient to explain the diversity of human sexuality."

"Psycho-social explanations offer a variety of factors that could contribute to the development of a person's homosexuality. For example, a female dominated upbringing in a gay man's past, with an absence of a male role model. Others stress adherence or deviance from conformity to gender roles, and individual psychological makeup."

"What is clear is that people's behaviour is influenced by their family environment, their experiences and their sense of themselves."

I'm lesbian; I have three straight sisters, one lesbian, and one brother who is straight AND homophobic.
We all grew up in the same house, with both parents present and loving all of us.
If homosexuality is 'caused' by upbringing (consciously or subconsciously) shouldn't we ALL be gay, or ALL straight?

i can't see the enviromental factors 'causing' it. i know LGBT people from all different backgrounds. some say it's abuse but how come i know rich, well brought up and happy people with a mum and dad who are happily married and their child is gay? and i know poor, abused people from single parent backgrounds who are also gay? one explaination for this...people are gay not out of choice but they were born that way and the problem people create out of someones sexuality is stupid. they should just leave them alone
