Why do Christians say this. I asked God to cure my child's leukemia, and he didn't. And spare me the "God works in mysterious ways" garbage. I wasn't asking for money or material things, but for God to spare an innocent child and all those who loved him from more suffering...and God spit in my face. WHY?????

Too late for that now, GFS. My child passed a year ago.

I can empathize with your pain. God ignored the pleas of my family when we were dealing with a terminally ill loved one (who, incidentally, was a devout Church-going Catholic his entire life). And how did God answer our prayers? By blessing him with a particularly lengthy and excruciatingly painful illness.

That's why, among many other reasons, I don't believe in a Biblical God any more. I suppose I believe in a Higher Power or some sort of Divine Order in the Universe, but not necessarily one that intercedes in our lives.

I could say I know what you are going through, but I don't. And no one who hasn't gone through it does. My heart does go out to you in your suffering. I do know this, God didn't spit in your face. The ask and you shall receive is also always in accord with God's will. Let me suggest something and it may sound like garbage too. Spend a few moments each day being thankful for the time you had with your child. A lot of times just remember the little things. Do this if for no other reason than to enhance the memories. Don't let the thoughts be bitter and do harm to the memories of the short life. God does not take innocent life and cast it into hell so remain strong in the Lord knowing that by this path you will see them again in a lot better place than this for all eternity. My prayers go out to you.

I'm sorry to hear about your child but if you want to know more about God then I can tell you a little bit about what He has revealed about Himself. Here's one passage that might be applicable to your question.

Isaiah 57:1 The righteous man perishes, and no one lays it to heart; devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from calamity; 2 he enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness.

For all you know God took your child to be with Him in Heaven to spare your child from some misfortune here on earth. Since you're not a Christian it could be that God took your child to Heaven before you hardened their heart against Jesus. When Jesus said "Ask and ye shall receive", He wasn't teaching that God is some on call doctor whom you can ring up on the prayer phone and have Him come and cure any illness that you or another person may be suffering from.

Jesus was talking about receiving salvation by seeking God who gives people new life by his Holy Spirit who regenerates and sanctifies us.

Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Instead of holding a grudge against God because He didn't meet you at the point of your want in this life you would do better to ensure that you have an opportunity to spend eternity with your child and God in the life to come.

It is such a tragedy that your child had leukemia. These are the days we live in where "time and unforeseen occurence befall" us all as Ecclesiastes 9:11 & 12 says.

We can see that God does not at this time intervene with every part of man's affairs, because if he did, then children wouldn't die, wouldn't get sick, good people wouldn't die, but he does have a plan for the future, where he will undo all the hurt and badness, and sadness of life in this system of things. He promises that there will come a time when the whole earth will be like he originally purposed it to be: a Paradise. Where no one will die or get sick, where there will be peace.(Psalm 37:10,11,28,29; Isaiah 33:24; Isaiah 35:5,6; Psalm 72:16) Where humans on earth will have God's full protection...as Revelation 21:3,4 puts it that it will be as if God's tent of protection will be over mankind, where nothing will harm us and verse 4 says "death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore." John saw in that vision when he was inspired to write Revelation that "the former things have passed away."

Also, in the future when God does make the earth a Paradise, Jesus will begin the resurrection of those in God's memorial tombs. So that those who have died, who are in God's unfailing memory will be brought back to life again. (John 5:28 & 29)

The things that have caused God's servants pain in this life will not even be "called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart." (Isaiah 65:17)

It is so painful now, especially when children suffer, and it is painful to God, but he has a plan in place to remove that pain and to make things right again, to restore his original purpose for humans who love him to enjoy perfect life on earth with their loved ones. (Isaiah 45:18)

For us who are living, it is harder because we have to endure the difficult times we live in, the ones who have died are just "resting" or "sleeping" as Jesus said, (Matthew 9:24) they are safe in God's memory awaiting the resurrection. For those of us still living we need to endure to the end in this difficult world to be saved to be able to live on earth forever in Paradise. (Matthew 24:13; John 17:3; John 3:16)

This is widely misunderstood by Christians. It isn't some blanket promise. There are conditions to having God hear our prayers, but you rarely hear this taught or preached.
Even then, it is entirely His choice how to answer. I cannot figure out why sometimes there is nothing but silence.
It may help in the future to know that a large part of prayer is literally a self-judging.
Sorry you went through this, and your child.

What i don't get is the liberals are all harping on issues that befell in the process the Bush administration. And yet in not one of the cases with the Bush did he order troops to stand down that have been waiting to be deployed, none of those did the White living house watch a stay feed of the violence, and yet nonetheless did no longer something. And on good of all of it, they LIED.

Either because he doesn't exist, or because he's a prick. Just look at the children in Africa dying of AIDS, and the church doesn't exactly help either, telling everyone condoms are evil.
