It really bugs me. It's very distracting. I don't know if it's a nervous tick, a side effect from a drug, or just his personality but it's like being on a boat back and forth, back and forth. Ughhhh. How can I deal with this?

Saw something on tv today that kinda got me thinking...
Lets say hypothetically that its 30 years in the future. Genetic engineering of humans is now legal, and parents can choose specific details for their children's phenotype and genotype (physical and genetic characteristics). Parents can also now choose whether or not their child is straight or gay.
Almost all parents who choose to have their child altered choose it to be heterosexual. In essence the entire gay population of the world is decreasing as children that would be gay are made straight.
There are no harmful side-effects from this engineering. All the children that would have been born are still born, only none of the ones that have been engineered are gay.
Would you object to this?

I just started working with a new company about 3 months ago. While I really like the company and my new job, my direct supervisor is incredibly annoying. He is pretty much your classic definition of dork. I get the impression that he doesn't have a lot of friends, and because I am only a few months younger than he is, he tries way too hard to "bond" with me. He's invited my husband and I over to his house for dinner (he's married as well). He's constantly prying into my personal life, asking me how I spent my weekend or evenings. It's his way of trying to forge a relationship with me, but I don't feel comfortable getting into the specifics of my personal life with him. When I tell him that my weekend was "fine", he presses the issue with more questions (i.e. "what did you do?") I want to be nice to him, since he's my boss, but I would much rather keep things professional. He means no harm by this, but I keep getting more and more annoyed with him. Any advice?

It just seems to me that people are either playing games or just downing others religions. Not really asking questions to learn anything. Maybe I just have not read enough questions yet. What are your thoughts on it?

Someone I know was once a Christian in 8th grade. They told me that they were going through something really hard, and God never helped them through it, so they left God. My religion teacher told me that whenever a Christian leaves God, God will slowly bring that person back. Has anyone experienced this? Please, no mean answers. Thank you everyone.

Fireball226 (666) in disguise sounds very lost. She is a very sad, lost cause. Should us Atheists save her from self destructing & show her a NORMAL, happy, fun life?

Yesterday, which was Sunday here, I read Esther Kaplan's "With God on Their Side," which gives an honest look at George Bush's romance with the theocratic Christian Right. I highly recommend it to skeptics, humanists, atheists, free-thinkers, agnostics, scholars, and the many Christians who do not see their faith as little more than a Fundy stepping stone to destroying America's Bill of Rights. Prepare to be shocked and damn angry. (The New Press, New York & London, 2005.)

It's just something that really irritates me. I mean, if you want to justify something using a book with over a thousand pages, I'm sure you can. I could interpret the fact that 'Jesus' was a man means that women are inferior to men. You could do any number of things using the hatebook, but most sensible people don't.

She asks inane questions, spends time discussing her childhood, and forces me to hug her after a chat about her personal issues and how they affect her treatment of people at work.

I have a hard time tolerating this at work, I really don't want to go to lunch with her. The only time we did go to lunch she tried to delve into my personal life and got upset when I politely steered the conversation away. I have been putting her off for about a month because I have been sick but she is getting extremely insistent.

How do I tell her no? Can I?

Also, she never asks the male member of our department to go to lunch or have these chats.

Now, I know I'm not the smartest man around, but I don't think I've ever managed to ask a question about the bible and not have someone tell me that I'm taking it "out of context".
You'd think even a dummy like me would get it right once or twice out of pure chance....

ok, Last night i went to church with one of my friends... Well there was this girl there that i have liked, for a while now, and she finally asked me out. OFC i said yes, BUT you see i am a girl, and well her parents didn't know that she was bisexual... But then last night i asked her at church if her parents knew, and she said no... THen after church at about 10 30 or so, i called her from my friends cell, and asked her what she was up to, and she told me that her parents are really mad at her because she told them about me and her.... They put the buble in her face, telling her how much of an "abomanation" being gay was..... She was pretty upset, but she still likes me. But i feel bad that her parents are mad at her.... What should i do?? I mean i dont know her parents, and i dont want her parents mad at me.... Any advice??
