Why not? It's as good a tool as any. Death is inevitable, and it is scary. Any coping tool is fair game.

If the person is a ' believer' of course , most people in " christian" religions believe in an afterlife of some sort.

As someone who has volunteered in hospice I believe the vast majority of people are comforted by that thought. However there are some , who will not be .

When someone is dying you try and make their dying as peaceful and as comfortable for them as you can so that they can die in dignity, so I guess it depends on who it is and what their belief system is.

It sure is! I am one who has a 'deep belief' in God, and I am 'looking forward' to going to Heaven after I die. That does NOT mean that I would be willing to 'die early' ... it's only enough to help me 'be not afraid' of dying. I don't believe that there is any 'pain' to dying ... if anything, dying is 'the end of pain' ... but today I am 'more alive' and can 'do more good, and have more real fun' because I 'believe in God' and am 'looking forward' to finding out 'the rest of the story' after I die.

That depends on 'how' you use the belief . . . for example, religions use the promise of an afterlife to draw you into their fold. They use fear of death and hell to ensure you remain a member. I find that atrocious, personally.

of course. that's why most people do so. the illusion of a religious-oriented after life is necessary for people to excuse their wrong doings and hope that their good deeds will eventually be rewarded

i think it's foolish to believe that this is the end of everything; there is no evidence of that. it's also foolish to believe that there is a heaven and a hell with a satan and a god. believing that there is SOMETHING out there after death without attaching conditions and descriptives to it is a good way to go about things.

Many do so and I can understand the need for some. Just don't be so dogmatic that to believe it you have to make everyone else believe what you do as well. Peace.

Sure but...if that is the motivation, is it true belief, or just wishful thinking?

if you consider heaven or hell an afterlife, then yes. you shouldn't fear death. you're only giving in to Satan's trap.

If I didn't believe and know with all my heart the Lord Jesus Christ..I could never "pretend" to someone else.
Honest is the best policy.
