Two of my friends just got engaged. I'm very very happy for them both, but recently split with my boyfriend (who is their best friend) and feeling really sad that my life hasn't turned out that way.

I know it's wrong to be self-pitying, but does it make me a horrible person? I don't want to be sad and bitter, I just want to be able to be happy for them with no other feelings attached :-(

it answers the question of why bad things happen to bad people.

take greek mythology, the gods were very human. had strong, often conflicting opinions. also, they didn't seem to have too much regard for human life, tolerance, or really anything aside from themselves. to even get 'em to do anything, you had to bribe 'em with some free food. lol.

god is out for himself! perhaps a philosophical breakthrough! lol.

when compared to it's major deity-based competitors, doesn't polytheism look like the most logical choice?

then again you've got the whole science thing.... lol.

We have a person at work who is a supervisor outside of our department but he sits right next to us. He listens to every single thing we say and then tells our boss what we are doing wrong. He will then try to be our friend. It is so obvious. Why are some people like this at work?

This may seem a little silly. I just got a temp job, and they say my dress is business casual, so what type of clothing would that be?

Yesterday I popped out for 5 mins to get the washing in, as I walked down my hallway past the lounge I noticed my son on the lounge carpet curled up in a ball holding himself whilst both my daughter & her friend were sitting, laughing. Guessing what had happened I felt embarrassed to intervene or go into the lounge to investigate. Whilst not knowing what to do, my daughters friend came into the kitchen and upon me asking what happened she replied that my daughter had kicked him in the balls and that she does that to boys all the time at school, for fun. Although my son is ok, I'm wondering whether I should say something to my daughter and if so what and if I do, will it make any difference especially as she not only witnessed me doing the very same thing to a man a few years back who wouldn't take no for and answer at a wedding reception but also given that such acts are regularly featured in movies, t.v. and comedies these days sometimes poytrayed as something of fun/humour.

I have had many issues in life, and coping with them is part of life, but i truly believe that "I" got myself into a better situation, Not that fact that i have faith in a higher power.. I feel like i am badgered by folks who tell me religion makes everything better, when deep down inside i completely disagree.
9/10 of what we hear about religion these days was created by man.
Is there anyone else that thinks this way?

I wore contact lenses for ten years and had this guy from the Lyon Contact Lens Center (in CA) that was supposed to be sooooo Christian and when I told him I was thinking of getting lasik or whatever the exact term is he emphasized to me the "danger" of having that done.

I had it done a few years ago and found it to be painless, fairly affordable (1,000 USD) and got 20/20 vision from what was severe nearsightedness. My vision has never changed over the years since the procedure. I never experienced one problem with it and I had two other family members do it at the same time I did and they're both fine too.

All the contact lens specialists in that office now as I recall always tried to get me to buy the most expensive latest model contact lens too even though they knew I didn't need it and was a broke student!!!

What pisses me off is they are so endorsed by Calvary Chapel and that is why I believed that these guys were actually looking out for me like they sooo pretended to be

I tried to get pretty deep into religion and philosophy the other night with him, and he didn't have much to contribute. He believes what he believes, and that's final. He doesn't have a lot to discuss or speculate about, as I do. He got really upset that it turned out to be something we really couldn't get on the same page about. He knows I need to be able to talk about these things with people who love it as much as I do. I was surprised to see how much it bothered him that I didn't feel satisfied with our conversation. I personally think its no big deal.. I can get on YA to talk to people about it, or seek out a friend in this big city to talk about it with. But he seems afraid that someday it will bother me that I can't "go deep" with religion & philosophy with him. Who do you agree with?
