Hell is a figurative term which describes the torment that one will experience as a consequence of not living in accordance with way we should live as laid down in the scriptures and shown to us by the Saviour when he came to earth to redeem man from both physical and spiritual death.
It is also a state of mind in which a person will be into for being found unworthy to live with God in his kingdom because of the way he lived so that Hell is not the same for everyone. Every individual who is not found worthy to be with God in everlasting happiness will be in his own personal hell proportionate to the degree by which he will be found unworthy.

My belief is that hell occurs on Earth and is not a place or location. I feel that many, but not all, people endure bits of hell in their lifetime. Disease, loss, suffering, mental illness, war, etc, etc, etc. In my opinion these are all aspects of hell that occur during life. I cannot understand why some endure hell and others don't but perhaps it's all part of our souls evolving through time. I do believe there is a heaven where our souls rest between periods of life. To each his own, of course, and heaven and hell can be argued endlessly but that's my take on it.

hell is a state of mind and way in which you view the world. If you are guilt free innocent you can walk about ok. Talk to others and live ok. In hell it's different, we fight a lot, always suspicious and afraid. There is no hope for a better tommorrow. No dreams or reason to care.

The word “hell” is found in many Bible translations. In the same verses other translations read “the grave,” “the world of the dead,” and so forth. Other Bibles simply transliterate the original-language words that are sometimes rendered “hell”; that is, they express them with the letters of our alphabet but leave the words untranslated. What are those words? The Hebrew she’ohl′ and its Greek equivalent hai′des, which refer, not to an individual burial place, but to the common grave of dead mankind; also the Greek ge′en·na, which is used as a symbol of eternal destruction. However, both in Christendom and in many non-Christian religions it is taught that hell is a place inhabited by demons and where the wicked, after death, are punished (and some believe that this is with torment).

hell is basically the place were the souls whose sins are more than their good deeds are sent. there the soul is tortured and doomed to be reborn on earth. after the soul has payed for his sins the soul will be given entrance to heaven and will not have another life.
different religions have different concepts for hell. amusingly it is always pictured as a place present below the earth.
heres a tip. singing prayers will help you avoid committing sins.

The bible teaches us that hell is a place for all souls that reject Christ Jesus as their Savior. Hell was created for the devil and his angels. But people who reject the grace of God send their selves there for God desires no man to perish but to have life everlasting.
