Well, considering that the Biblical God repeatedly COMMANDS his followers to torture and kill people, it appears that Hitler was telling the truth. He obeyed more of God's commands than most other Christians do.

"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord." - Adolf Hitler

“Who says I am not under the special protection of God?” - Adolf Hitler

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people." - Adolf Hitler

As long as they aren't killing people, more power to them. A lot of people are doing the Gods work in soup kitchen across the world. Doctors with out borders and missionaries are helping feed third world countries. I don't agree with Christian doctrine, but they do a lot of good work too.
And for the record Hitler was a nutcase. He was probably Christian one day and atheist the next. He was delusional with visions of grandeur and was probably schizophrenic. I wouldn't use him as an example.

To everyone who says Hitler was an atheist or that he never claimed to be doing God's work, I suggest you read a couple of things... Mein Kampf (by Shitler himself), and Hitler's Table Talk, translated by Norman Cameron and R.H. Stevens, 1953.

In Mein Kampf, he wrote:
"And so I believe to-day that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator. In standing guard against the Jew I am defending the handiwork of the Lord."

The Nazi Party program said, "The party as such, stands for positive Christianity but does not bind itself in the matter of creed to any particular confession."

In one speech, Hitler commented "The Government sees in both Christian confessions [Catholicism and Protestantism] the most important factors for the maintenance of our folkdom."

Soon after coming to power in 1933, he proclaimed, "The Reich government sees in Christianity the unshakable foundation of the ethics and morality of the folk."

As early as 1922 Hitler said, "My feelings as a Christian point me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter...As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice...For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people."

He says in his own words that he feels his actions are in doing God's work, and that he is a devout Christian.

So... to those who say he was an atheist: BZZZZT! Wrong.
To those who claim he never said he was doing God's work: BZZZZZZT! Wrong!

As to the question at hand...
Anyone who claims to be doing the work of the Christian GOD and spreads hatred, and exhorts people to violence... well... they're right. They are doing the work of the Christian God.
If they say, however, that they are doing the work of Jesus Christ and are spreading the same kind of bile, they're wrong.
God (old testament) was a murderer and generally a great big whiny petulant prat who destroyed cities and nations for the great sin of not bowing down to him like the psychopathic sycophant that he proves himself to be.
Christ, on the other hand, exhorted people to be good to one another, and did good works (except the whole fig tree thing... that was just stupid) on Earth.

Edit: Hey, Mulereiner #... you might want to read up in Leviticus before you start saying that God never advocated genocide, or the sacking of entire races...
You might be surprised.

Hitler was the "poster child" for the anti-Christ.
Hitler was raised by Catholic parents but later rejected catholicism and was influenced by nationalism. He spoke of his Christianity as a motivation for his anti-semitism and to prove that the Jews were evil because they killed Jesus.
He took the word/scripture and twisted it to benefit what he tried to accomplish, world domination!

add on:
sorry I forgot to answer the question...
The bible tells us to "test" the spirit. With that you will know who is false and who is truly a man/woman of God.
great question

Hitler may have claimed he was doing God's work. He hated Christians.
So one wonders which god?
What he did completely contradicts inherent moral values, the Christian God is in alignment with them.

Hitler never claimed to be doing Gods work.
