My son in law made a left turn from the left lane directly in front of a car going the same direction (He does this quite often). The other driver followed him into the park lot and told him if he had not recently become a Christian he would have beat the heck out of him. So you see, we be good.

I have read a lot of answers from Christians that refer to evil people and evil as a whole. Can someone please explain to me who or what is evil and how I would go about spotting them?

Is the word 'evil' just made up to describe anyone who doesn't follow your religion?

I am genuinely intrigued by this cos of all the times I see the word, it seems to describe a different thing.

I am not picking, it's just something I'm left unsure about all the time.

"The Trinity . . . It did not find a place formally in the theology of the church till the 4th century." -- The Illustrated Bible Dictionary

"The three-in-one/one-in-three mystery of Father, Son and Holy Ghost made tritheism official. The subsequent almost-deification of the Virgin Mary made it quatrotheism . . . Finally, cart-loads of saints raised to quarter-deification turned Christianity into plain old-fashioned polytheism.

By the time of the Crusades, it was the most polytheistic religion to ever have existed, with the possible exception of Hinduism. This untenable contradiction between the assertion of monotheism and the reality of polytheism was dealt with by accusing other religions of the Christian fault. The Church - Catholic and later Protestant - turned aggressively on the two most clearly monotheistic religions in view - Judaism and Islam - and persecuted them as heathen or pagan.

The external history of Christianity consists largely of accusations that other religions rely on the worship of more than one god and therefore not the true God. These pagans must therefore be converted, conquered and/or killed for their own good in order that they benefit from the singularity of the Holy Trinity, plus appendages." -- The Doubter's Companion (John Ralston Saul)

I hear this all the time. I got an email from someone saying they 'Belong' to the church. When I was a Mormon, my daughter came home from church with a tag on her that said "I belong to the church.." That was almost the last straw.

Does this bother you that the church assumes they Own You? Opinions please..

the only different you never mention a christian man did it. but you will be so excited to say "a muslim man did it". that's how unfair a person can be. Islam, this beautiful religion protects our rights and our women. leave Islam alone, we already know its the true word from our lord.

Christianity in particular, it's so foolish to me.
I have been a devout christian for years now! BUt when I started reading the churche's "advertisements," I started losing faith.
I mean...
the reason a person was to join the religion was this:

Avoid Hell.

That just seems... cowardly... and simple.

Yes, I do believe they are. They do not believe that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. They also reject justification by faith alone (they add their own works to the gift of salvation bought by Christ). You cannot reject the deity of Christ and the free justification of the sinner to be considered a true Christian.

"If anyone secretly entices you--even if it is your brother, your father's son or your mother's son, or your own son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your most intimate friend-- saying, "Let us go worship other gods" you must not yield to or heed any such persons. Show them no pity or compassion and do not shield them. But you shall surely KILL them; your own hand shall be first against them to execute them, and then the hand of all the people. Stone them to death for trying to turn you away from the Lord your God." (Deut 13:6-10)

But I thought that a lot of Americans don't 'get' British humour. So how comes they like The Simpsons too? Or do they laugh at different points than we do?

Something unseen being deities, god, gods, wicca, etc...

IMHO, it is much harder to believe in things unseen than to not believe at all.

if God makes all of us why would someone else have the right to say God is against gays/lesbians? most gays/lesbians i know including myself knew at a very young age that i had lesbian thoughts and even if i became straight today my heart would still be a lesbian. God knows our hearts and having feelings is as bad as acting. so why would God make us the way we are and then reject us in the end???????

"In most interpretations of Sharia, conversion by Muslims to other religions, is strictly forbidden and is termed apostasy. Muslim theology equates apostasy to treason, and in most interpretations of sharia, the penalty for apostasy is death.

In many Muslim countries, the accusation of apostasy is even used against non-conventional interpretations of the Quran. The severe persecution of the famous expert in Arabic literature, Prof. Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, is an example of this. In some countries, Sunni and Shia Muslims often accuse each other of apostasy. The current civil strife in Iraq is explained by many in terms of the extremely harsh religious opposition between Sunnis and Shias in Iraq." - wikipedia

How can all of the people of the planet be lumped into two opposite groups of Christian-good and not Christian-bad? The first group gets infinitely rewarded for being born into and taught the 'correct religion' while all others are infinitely punished for being born into or taught an 'incorrect religion or philosophy'. Why is such a black and white picture of justice considered fair when it fails to take into account peoples' altruism, good intentions, and positive impacts upon society?

I once asked a priest where Moses was, he told me he was in heaven. I then asked him when he went there, he told me when he died.
I then asked him where my grandfather was, he told me in heaven. I then asked him when he went there, he told me when he died.
Ok, I understand that, so when Jesus died what difference did he make. The church teaches that Jesus is our saviour correct? So what has he saved us from?
Something just does not add up.
