This is a good question. I wish I could answer it for you but I'm waiting for the answers as well. But I think it really depends on the kid.

I am a 56 year old retired elem teacher and raised my 2 and know kids quite well, but if you could add details it would help because I don't know which area you are speaking of, TV, video games, manners, what age ? You seem to be aimed at something going on in your life, ??? Love and Logic is an excellent site to search out and so is babycenter.com for up to 6 years. Growing Child is excellent. james Dobson is excellent and down to earth, see on amazon.com or Focus On The Family. Hope these help I will check back to see if you add details. I love kids a ton !!!
