Charles Colson wrote an essay saying no on Newsweek's religion site. He is the founder of the Prison Fellowship Ministries (conservative Evangelical Christian), which he founded after going to jail for his involvement in the Watergate scandal.

Your faith requires you to believe in "sin" and "evil", so that any new paradigm of looking at inter-personal problems must be rejected if it fails to contain those two characteristics.

It is well that medicine was able to lift itself out of demonology so as to treat mental illness with something better than holy water.

But your need to interpret events as "the work of the devil" and to look for the worse in others only furthers a need to insulate yourself from the rest of humanity and see them as "evil corrupters of faith".

And yet, without the concept of "Satan" and "evil" and "sin" your faith has no real basis for existence, beyond learning to love one another which most other faiths and philosophies advise anyway.

So isn't it true you must believe in sin, Satan and evil to justify your faith in a God who saves you from all of that? Doesn't my refusal to be converted represent an evil, sinful nature in your eyes, and thus colour all else you interpret of me?

about the state of youth today. (yes, I know, for eternity, elders have thought the same thing)...I see HS grads who cannot add, subtract, mulitply or divide WITH a calculator ! So many of these same graduates cannot read, certainly cannot write, spelling is beyond them. NOW...here is the question....when the future of the US is left in the hands of about 1-5% of those same HS graduates (the ones who actually learned something instead of being cool and chasing boys), obviously, our pool of "leaders" will be greatly reduced...(do we really want another GW BUSH as President...sorry about the politics). I would love to hear your thoughts on this scourge of ignorance our schools and .... parents... are churning out. I could go on and on, but I will let you fill in the blanks..I do not think I am painting an abnormally dire forecast...I see this everyday, cannot hire 95% of job applicants because they can't even divide by 10!

Pope Benedict XVI reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says other Christian communities are either defective or not true churches and Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation.

Why is god referred to as a "he"? Why can't god be a female? I have always wondered this. Maybe since men wrote the bible they made god a male? I just want to know other people's thoughts about god's gender.

He hates this kid Randell and poured some of the water on his salad when he wasnt looking. Randell has not been to school in 3 weeks since then. Do you think it was because of the water. I cant tell because i promised my dad i wouldnt tell on people in life. What should I do?

The Bible describes a God who will inflict worse torture than any human has ever done, a God whose acts would garner condemnation from every quarter of the earth were they performed by a ruler or revolutionary.

Yet Christians worship this God and look forward to those moment when they believe such atrocities will occur.

Or do they not?

Am I ill-informed, or somehow misinterpreting the scriptures?

Explain to me why Christians do not long for the anguish of those who disagree with their beliefs.

Do you really think that God spends ALL his time creating souls and stuffing them into babies? Why not just have all the souls already made and ready to go. It says in the Bible that God knew King David before he formed him in his mothers womb. It DOESN"T say he knew ABOUT David or OF David. It says he KNEW David. Alot of Christians add little words to the Bible to change the meaning. Also, Muhomad saved the Origional Genisis acount and when you compair it to what Joseph Smith wrote it's very simular. In the Koran Genisis acount Adam and eve lived in heaven before they came to earth. This was the acount before some men got their gruby hands on it. But really, do you believe that God spends all his time creating souls at the SPUR OF THE MOMENT when someone has sex.

I think they are miserable, lonely, angry, abused as children(whether, mentally, physically, etc). I say so because the amount of hate it takes is not normal. I think a lot of these people had little or no contact with other humans(their mothers and fathers) growing up. They are just bitter souls and it is unfortunate.

Why are Americans such prudes about topless beaches and nude beaches? It doesn't bother me, but in Europe noone cares. In this country we seem to raise our children to be impaired by these images when there is nothing wrong with them. Where does this mentality come from? In the South Seas women go topless as well as Africa.

O.K. Fundies, do you really believe that people can turn from their supposed sin of homosexuality? Do you really believe in these ex-gay groups?

If so, if single, would you be willing to date/marry/have children with someone who was a "former" homosexual, who supposedly turned from the "sinful" lifestyle and found your idea of God ?

Would you mind if your adult child dated/married/had children with a former homosexual who found your idea of God?

Would you be willing to go to a Church retreat with a former homosexual and share sleeping/bathroom/shower quarters knowing you may be nude in front of them?

If you truly believe that one can turn from this "supposed" sin...shouldn't you be able to answer yes to all of the above?

Your thoughts?

My point is that Christians have had a persecution complex going on for so long that they occasionally experience mass paranoid delusions.
I’m not trying to imply that every Christian is in need of therapy.
I am saying that just because large majorities of people believe something doesn’t in any way help prove its true.
I don’t even believe it’s a Christian thing particularly; it’s a majority thing.
Christianity gives the majority the moral authority to come to wrong conclusions, just as Paganism gave the Roman Emperors and Senate the moral authority to mismanage the peoples of their time.
Christianity was the New Age philosophy at one time.
