Her 6 year-old daughter was born with a clump of blood vessels under her upper lip that swells and makes her mouth look distorted.
I was using Photoshop to remove the lump to see what she would look like . . .my friend saw the file when she was using my computer and started crying . . .now she won't talk to me. What should I do?

Okay relax, people! I Photoshop stuff all the time - even to pictures of myself. I'm a professional airbrush artist for portraits and magazines.

She's too sensitive and you were not careful enough to hide it.

Write her an email.
Explain everything you feel, why you did it, etc.
She's upset, because deep down in her heart it hurts her to have a daughter like that. Every mom wants her children to be born perfect and have a perfect life.
She needs to know that what you did does not affect how much you love her daughter, it also does not affect the fact that her daughter is a cute adorable girl.
Maybe if she were just open about this subject, you'd be able to push the suggestion that simple operations are done when the child grows... but i totally do NOT advice talking about this now..
Just write her and apologize, make sure to emphasize how both her and her daughter mean to you despite anything.

Hemangeomas are terribly disfiguring - not to mention sometimes life threatening.
Even though you meant well, it was extremely rude to "experiment" with her daughter's photo without permission. That's tantamount to scribbling a mustache on it.
Not only is it rude - but it borders on morbid. Gross.
This should teach you that curiosity is sometimes best left unsatisfied.
That said - and I'm sure you feel terribly embarrassed about the whole thing - perhaps you could write an apology and have it sent along with flowers or something nice - to your neighbor and ask her to tea so you can apologize in person.
By the same token, she shouldn't be rummaging around your files. This should teach her to not rely on other people's computers.
Shakespeare was right when he said, Neither a borrower nor a lender, be.

Oh man, that stinks. Give her a sincere, heartfelt apology and ask for her forgiveness. That is really all you can do. There is no easy way around this since she took it so hard. I hope you can work things out.

What you did was very hurt full to a mother. In a mother's eyes no child is distorted. You need to apologize and spend your free time doing something more productive.

I wouldnt talk to you either. That is petty at the least and so hurtful to a mother. you should try and apologise and i wouldnt blame the friend if she never spoke to you again.

Apologize.
Your friend should also apologize for rummaging through your computer files.

You're lucky it wasn't me. I wouldn't have cried, but when I was done with you YOU sure would be.
What kind of a.sshole does that? You'd no longer be my friend, and you'd have at least one black eye if you did that with my kid's picture.
**So what! No one cares what you do to pictures of YOUR hideous face! You were, as the mother saw, mocking a child. I still say, I'd whip your inconsiderate HATEFUL a.ss if you did that to my kid.
Every child is beautiful, and if you're too big a creep to see that you don't deserve this woman's forgiveness. I hope she tells you to go screw yourself.
