My pastor lives in the house that the church provided. He skipped his salary for a couple of weeks because we needed church help. He does not have a nice ride, or anything like that. but he is one of the most wonderful, and nicest people you will ever meet

I notice that 'some' of them do. It really depends on the individual church/denomination and what their style is. There are some churches that preach wealth, where almost every car in the parking lot is brand new and a luxury car. But there are a lot of small-town preachers who barely get by. In the Catholic churches, the priests drive a modest car given to them by the parish.

Yes, they are truly blessed for the honorable work done to reach and win souls for the kingdom of God. What you may not see is the work behind the scenes to plant many bible-based churches in areas where God is calling for them to minister. My Pastor gets most if not all of his funding for missionary efforts from a special collection dedicated to planting churches. The remaining church tithes go to paying the mortgage(s) of the church and other church owned buildings. The remainder of that remainder goes to supporting them, as with any pastoral family, their source of income is the church tithes. They do not extract their income from governmental sources. Sometimes from donations, but these are few and far between. My Pastor deserves it, he and his family work very very hard in keeping up the local ministry, the church buildings, the overseas ministries, and many other charitable conferences they sponsor, all for the edification of the church and its congregation. There is not a penny wasted. I believe my church's Pastoral staff deserve many many blessings, for their cause is worthy of God's favor. I have not run into any abuse of the church funds in my experience. It is unfortunate that this happens to some.

That is true with some ministers, but not all. Not by far. The ministers I know are comfortable in how they live, open their homes to people in difficult situations, take time and money to help out people who need it, volunteer at shelters, care for people's children 40+ hours a week for low wages because the mother can't afford market rate child care, things like that.

I don't know. I'm Catholic now and the priests drive very moderate, basic cars. They live in the home provided by the Church and I have no idea what they do with their money.

When I was Methodist, our minister and his family, lived in a home on church property. They did not own it. I cannot remember what they drove, and again I have no idea what he did with his own money. They seemed very average to me in their lifestyle though.

I have not noticed that in my denomination. For the most part in the PCA, we see lower middle class guys as pastors. And everyone that I have met are very generous with their time, talents, and money.

Now granted. there are some that are more selfish. I would count almost all TV evangelists in this category. But they are a very minute subset of pastors and I think it is unfair to paint all of them with that broad a brush.

The Pastors I know are very generous. If God chooses to bless someone materially, what business is that of yours? Envy and covetousness are sins we need to guard against. Don't concern yourself with how God is blessing one person or another, you follow Christ!

There's an old saying that "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions." I have a feeling that most preachers have their OWN saying about how "The road to Heaven is paved with good paychecks."

Maybe it's you cuz my pastor lives in a small house and drives a decent car and helps everyone who asks him even the ones who've stabbed him in the back and I know several others like him.

I believe in God too, and I agree with you. It is quite hypocritical. Makes me think of that song from Poison, Something to Believe In.

I can't believe I just referenced a hair band and was completely serious.
