Because Spain is a primarily catholic country. And Spain colonized most parts of America in the XV and XVI Century. Brazil is the largest Catholic country and that is because Portugal that conquered Brazil, is also very Catholic.
In the 1500's The Queen Isabel La Católica (Isabel de Castile and Leon) with husband King Ferdinand were pronounced by the Pope Alexander VI 'The Catholic Monarchs' mostly due to the fact that they were the first catholic reagents of Spain after the moor invasion they 'expelled' the Muslims and Jews and began a new era of fervent Catholic faith. When the 'New World' was discovered it was proclaimed in the name of Spain and Christ. . . the rest is history.
Puerto Rico although a Spanish colony at one time, is now a territory of the United States, and thus there has been a surge in protestantism it also has had a historically significant immigration from Africa, and they have had a presence in the Island in the form of Santería (which is a mixture of Catholic and Yoruban beliefs)

Because Spain is one of the many countries that were dominated by the Catholic Church.
Catholic countries are countries noted as traditionally having a heavy predominance of adherents of the Catholic Church in their populations. Italy is probably the best known of these countries, particularly since the Vatican is situated within the city of Rome. Other well known Catholic countries in Europe include Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Lithuania, Poland, Ireland, Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Malta. Catholicism is also the Largest Religious denomination in Germany and The Netherlands. Catholic countries in other parts of the world include some Asian nations such as the Philippines, or all of the countries of Latin America. The religion is also quickly becoming part of the national identity of some of Africa's nations, such as Angola, Nigeria, and Uganda.

The church conquered spain centuries ago and when the monks came with the conquistadores to the new world they would capture a village, put the men in a stockade, rape the women and roast the children over a fire until they agreed to have this new god of love and understanding as their diety. It has been documented.

the religious in history have always fought wars for territory in the name of god,and to spread gods word.the people were sincere when this first happened however as usual the governing bodies of countries as usual count on the peoples ability to be easily tricked and controlled with mystic stories. do you think bush chenney blair etc ... believe in god. no they know you do though and thats all part of the control mechanism. the pope is no more blessed than me.
