Oriental traditions call them "siddhis". Among them could be, for example, the ability to be in several places at the same time, to materialise objects out of thin air, etc. etc.

Do the presence of such superpowers necessarily indicate that the person is enlightened?

The Lukewarm Church

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Romans 12:2 says 'do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind'

But then:

Romans 12:17b says 'Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.'

These seem to be contradicting statements. How do I conform my actions to the collective morals of the people in the world without conforming to the patterns of the world itself, especially since so many people seem to define what is right from the patterns of the world?

I just finished reading Romans, and it is a great book. I just have a few questions about some of the verses.

When I first learnt French at school we sang a song parrot fashion. From what I made out I believd it to be about a mother forgetting a feather and needing to buy another, but have never been quiet sure! This is what I sang - can anyone correct the French and tell me the correct story?

Ma Mere, Elle Pardue Une Plumbe,
Ma Mere, elle pardue une plumbe more ray,
Ill argentay une plumbe,
Ill argentay une plumbe moreray...

Une conted up to five eventually.

Tell you what to think instead of giving you food for thought?Fox news in particular is guilty of this,I thought new reporters were supposed to remain un bias in order to give people the chance to form their own opinions on issues, instead of imposing their views the public? Do you get sick of this?

Of course this is not an exact science!!! I think there are far more good people than bad people on earth. What do you think? Think about your experience in life, have you met more good than bad? I certainly have-by far.

I am told God gave us free will so he would know that when he received our love is was genuine, and not something he forced us to do.

However ...

We need only look around us and at history to see the fruits of free will:
- millions murdered
- millions raped
- millions enslaved

All of this permitted through the 'gift' of free will which god gave us so he'd know any love he got was genuine.

Why is god so needy and self-absorbed he's willing to cause such misery with a gift he granted for his own benefit (and obviously not for the benefit of humans considering the misery it causes)?

What if I told you, that your whole life has been a lie? And that everything you thought to be true has been munipulated & twisted. From the beginning of time, our perception has been altered. From the time of Adam & Eve. God said he created all things & all he had created was good. The earth was meant to be a pardise. But that peace & rest was disturbed. And the world as we know it has emerged. We are in slaved by knowledge. The more we seek to know, the more damage we cause ourselves. The more we study, the less perfect things become. How did drinking to be merry, turn into alcoholism? How did a act of love making, turn into rape? What about hymns to praise God, now it is sexually explicit lyrics. Art has become pornography. All these things God created as good & through the human quest for knowledge we have corrupted. We have been trick to believe the world is how we see it. Put aside the worldly things. Seek the One. Escape the matrix. Now you must choose the red or the blue pill.

People use their decisions to hurt others, lie, steal, cheat.
People use their free will to insult God--and blame him for what created people choose to do. It is especially funny when atheists blame God----If they dont believe in God, how can he possibly be to blame.
And if you want to assign blame to God for suffering and evil----Dont you out of necessity have to credit God for all the love, joy and happiness as well?
What do you think? ps if you say "God is not real" I am wondering why you answered the question in the first place.

The vast majority of scientists and philosophers were/are Agnostics, not Atheists. Including Einstein.

They realize that, ultimately, the existence or non-existence of God is unknowable.

Every basic science student learns that there is a certain amount of uncertainty in every measurement. Even if you take a coin out of your pocket and measure it, you will never be able to attain a perfect measurement for it - at least not one that has no uncertainty.

Therefore, it is only logical, that if we assign uncertainties to something so seemingly simple as measuring a coin, there is a vast amount of uncertainty associated with the origins of life and matter as we know it, and that could include the possibility of a God or Creator-like being.

Atheists seem to be people who simply wish reject the mere possibility of a God or Gods, but there is no scientific basis for such a narrowed belief.

I'm guessing that in 2030 with all the baby boomers retiring the western world will be filled with retirees so there's a sector for your buck today lol. And with any luck we'll have switched to reneweable energy sources, though water and oil will be an issue. What about you?

Let me get this straight:

If you *think* it's true -- despite evidence to the contrary -- then you can continue to say it and you're NOT lying?

Have I got that right?

There is a supreme intelligent creator who is perfect in every way. Despite being perfect he 'decides' to create a planet called earth(nobody knows who created him however) Then despite being perfect he 'creates' humans as an experiment-as he didn't know the outcome of his creation. He makes a snake talk and gives 2humans 'free will' Then they disobey him so then 'sin' is born(Ahem) Despite being perfect he then murders the whole world in a big flood (children as well) and places all the animals on a big boat-which is 200 years before possibility could allow..Despite the natural habitats of these animals and them neing natural predators-they somehow survive....(ahem) Despite the creator managing to create earth he decides to go 'round the houses' with a big flood...Next the earth is miraculously repopulated by Noah and family...Not content with 1 attempt at free will human life, the creator has another go and messes up again!

What does anyone think?

Some accounts in the Bible tell us that the fallen angels mated with human daughters, which produced giant men with super-human strength.
Since I have very little knowledge of archeology I have not been able to gather any evidence for this.

Any scientific minded guys out there? Please help.

Also, Folks with oversized imagination are not invited. Please try to quote references in support of your answers.
