Ive slept with only boxers on since i was 8 and im now 13 so theres nothing wrong with that. Parents shouldnt be that strict on the kids as they are trying to get into the fashion of copying their friends. Some kids do it because they are vain and they want people to look at their bodies and admire them and it makes them feel even more manly when they are sleeping with just boxers on. As long as they are not naked than that is fine because at that age being naked is a bad idea

When Shakespeare says "nightgown" he means an evening robe, not a bed robe. Pajamas are a comparatively recent invention. In the Middle Ages and for centuries later in Europe, most people slept naked. If it was cold, you piled on more blankets (or furs or rugs or whatever). Only if you were ill, you might wrap up first.

So not only is it common among Americans now, it's historically common!

I guess that boys want to sleep shirtless to show that they have grown up and can made decisions for themselves. Yes, it is quite common among boys. It is also good for Mom as well since there are less laundry to do.
