The question is, if people are going to make the effort to move to the West for a better life, why are they continuing their outdated and sometimes barbaric traditions? If they are going to continue to cover up and beat their wives and daughters, why even bother coming here?

In book club for RS enrichment a month or so ago, the group leader brought a list of books you should read in your life. She said she got it from the New Era and that the list was published in the 70's or 80's. I have looked all over the church's online library, but can't find the article. And the group leader doesn't know where to find it exactly (she got it from someone else).

Has anyone seen this list and know where I could find it?

Note: Obviously, this question in no way requests anti-mormon sites or for your opinion on my church or beliefs. So please refrain from such answers. If you can't refrain, accept the consequence of being reported.

Ann Landers was busy. So it's up to you guys. My dad's getting remarried on June 30th. I'm going on vacation to California from the 19th-29th, tickets already purchased. He told me that there's a rehearsal dinner on the 29th at 6pm after I purchased the tickets. My flight gets in at 5:30pm, so that gives me half an hour (through baggage claim and the 30 minute taxi ride through rush hour traffic) to get to the dinner. I know at this point that I'll be late. I'm not in the wedding, except for a small reading. I tried to change the flight, but they all jumped up to $300 and up. I feel horrible, but he told me so late. I feel like I should change the tickets, but it's so much money. What would you do?

sometimes when i`m laying down or about to fall asleep, i feel like i`m floating & moving back and forth.. i told my gramma about this [i`m 16] & she`s really religious; she told me it`s an angel carrying me.. but i wanna know what it really is.. it feels co0l though. it only lasts a couple of seconds & it happens every couple of weeks or months. after it`s over, it feels like i`m being placed back into where i`m laying.. what is that?

"Religiously inspired child abuse" or OK? What do you think/why?

(Keep in mind that the supposed "health benefits" are marginal at best. One could make an argument for past times, where sanitation was a rarity, but in this time it doesn't make a difference. I'll welcome any proof that says otherwise, but that is the knowledge I have.)

I know he had one of the greatest, most imitated voices in history and a great deal of men want to sound like him, but how do you think I might go about this?

All I can find in reference is that he was told 'to lose the valley accent,'- not very helpful to someone who doesn't hail from Cmyru in the first place!

One of you managed to get all prayer requests for Debra M deleted, including her husband's and the one that I posted for her. I hope the person responsible is very pleased with themselves. I really have to wonder how you're going to react when what goes round, comes round and lands on your doorstep.

last night , while waiting a few hours in the waiting room of a hospital as my mum was being attended to ....
I realised that I was all alone there , which for A&E is pretty strange
then in comes a lady and sits next to me , reading a book that I had read
so we started to talk
she was a Seik (sp? ) and we spent almost 2 hours discussing religion and life and love and peace
and all that good stuff
she was like a Seik pangel lol
my two hours in a waiting room , turned into a beautiful educational discussion with someone I connected with right away

have you had experiences like this ?
do you think people come into our lives for a reason ?
what are your thoughts please ?

i have noticed on a rare occasion that when i'm talking to someone.... and this is no lie... i have often seen ripples similar to heatwaves come as if from nowhere and when i see these ripples the person seems to forget what they were talking about in the first place and i never find out what they were going to say, almost as if someone was trying to prevent it. weird. it hasn't happened in a while though.

How do you cope?

I've lived without a father much longer than with one. (He died when I was 7.) I lied to a friend today and told her Father's Day was like Eid Al Fitr or Hanukkah--something other people celebrate and I don't think about. It's not quite like that. I sprint past that greeting card aisle and delete all e-mails about it without reading and just try to deny it as best as I can.

If your father's dead or otherwise missing from your life, how do you deal with it? And is my reaction normal when it's been over 25 years?

What does it mean for jesus to die for your sins? I'm a freethinker but even when i was a chrisitan, I never really understood what that meant. Thats so cruel, die for the worlds sins? WTF? Would anybody in their right minds do something so dumb?

In America people consider women to be a minority group like blacks and hispanics but I dont find it to be a fair comparison.
For one white women were never subjected to slavery and lynching.
Two they make up the largest percentage of college students, voters, and live the longest out of all us citizens.
Three it has been proven that the criminal justice system and divorce court tends to favor women over men, especially white women.
An example is Debra Lafave slept with a 13 year old boy yet she did not serve a day in prison however they are males who serve 5 years for less heinous offenses.
