In America people consider women to be a minority group like blacks and hispanics but I dont find it to be a fair comparison.
For one white women were never subjected to slavery and lynching.
Two they make up the largest percentage of college students, voters, and live the longest out of all us citizens.
Three it has been proven that the criminal justice system and divorce court tends to favor women over men, especially white women.
An example is Debra Lafave slept with a 13 year old boy yet she did not serve a day in prison however they are males who serve 5 years for less heinous offenses.

okay let me explain why they are considered a minority and it is not about slavery it is about providing a fair economy.
See most of the US is run by men - to be exact white males. the government needs to provide a fair way for women to be equal to men and therefore they are given a classification as a minority. Because the government attempts to provide equal opportunity for all.
Let me ask you- do you think most companies prefer to hire a man or a woman? A man- studies have proved that- just as most prefer to hire a white male over women and other races- so yes it is fair.
as a female business owner and someone who has worked in the real world for over 15years it is very different being a woman than a man- and just because more white women are by your statics voters and college educated why is that bad?
Most women in power fight more for more woman of all races to be created equal and fight more for minorities as a whole to be treated equally. As far as your Lafave case what in the world does that have to do with anything? OJ got off so is that a race issue- no that is a money issue

Oh, let's not play the "who's pain is painier" game. Never helpful. Economically, politically, and in lots of other ways, women and ethnic minorities have a LOT in common. BTW, there are more whites on campus because there are a LOT more whites in this country (at least, it's unreasonable to expect the numbers to be equal -- things aren't fair, yet, but it will never be 50% blacks when they make up only 14% of the population; women are a little over HALF of the population). The point isn't "which of these groups should get equal rights?" It's when is EVERYBODY going to have equal rights and opportunities?

You must be kidding. Not all minorities are minorities because their ancestors were slaves. Minority means "the smaller part or number; a number, part, or amount forming less than half of the whole." There is nothing in that definition about lynching or slavery, which by the way, Americans in modern day do not experience.

WTF? WOMEN IN GENERAL ARE A MINORITY because of Americas history of persecution toward women in various ways. women have overcome major battles in civil rights over the centuries and we are still suffering from sexual degradation......theres still work discrimination toward women and men in general make more money.

white women make up the most college students and voters in america? i highly doubt that but okay...

and you morons need to stop comparing criminal offenses to try and make some pathetic point. just because one injustice happened doesnt at all excuse another. and as far as rape - do you know many women are blamed for rape and how many of those animals just get away?

while false rape accusation exists, its a lot easier to believe that a guy raped a girl and pretended to be the victim of false accusation than for a girl to just make it up. but it does happen.

men run the corporate and politcal worlds. they run agriculture and the many other significant facets of society. women are constantly trying to catch up. women are a minority.

You're comparing apples to oranges. There's a difference between RACIAL minorities and GENDER minorities. Women (ALL women) are considered a minority group because they are women. Race is another ball of wax.

I think that perhaps you should check out Mr. Webster, and look up the definition of minority.
