I'm noticing that the older I get, the more honest I am. I feel that if someone asks me a question, they want an honest answer. I'm kinda enjoying this because I'm being true to myself and those around me. I would (obviously) never intentionally hurt anyone but as my daughter says, "Don't ask mom unless you want the truth". Getting older definately has its drawbacks but it's not as bad as I feared it would be!

I'd like to know that if belief in several contradictory irrational concepts is required of a member of a religious group, is this faith therefore built on self-deception?

And if this is the case, does faith rely on an ignorance of multiple perspectives, an ignorance of uncomfortable logical pathways that exist.

I see that many choose to ignore to entertain the thought, but is this not in direct contradiction to carrying a truth seeking mind?

Is comfort the highest ideal of many? And by comfort I mean persisting in a worldview that encourages ignorance, by setting up assumptions that the search for all else outside the claims of a particular religion is futile.

If it is termed as futile, then people will persist in not investigating ideas from different perspectives and will use the rules of a religion as the critera for accepting or refusing to accept the logic that may exist outside it.

This is nothing more than an ignorant denial rather than a coherent knowledge inclusive search for the truth.

My friend and I just went to apply for jobs at the local minimall. We stopped at the Mcdonalds and requested applications.

1 - The lady speaks to us in spanish. Her english is poor and through hand gestures and other employees, we manage to get "job applications" across.
2 - We are given applications which are in Spanish.
3 - We request ones in english, but are told they dont have any. Not "we are out". Dont have any.

I live in Northern Virginia. Last time I checked, our spanish community here wasnt that large. Furthermore, this is an english-speaking country.

Why is it that,
a cultural icon of america
a place where 70% of americans have worked at one time or another

Cannot give me an application in english???

So many of the people have got after me for challenging the G & L lifestyle, and yet I try to stay out of that section. I ask questions about G & L persons that lead a life contrary to my and many others spiritual beliefs. Yet they demand that we include them in our fellowships. Athiests pop in and ridicule our beliefs and bash us, and yet many of you don't consider that persecution or "hate speach". So why do you come to fight us? If our beliefs are untrue or have no basis, why must you oppose them? Is it because you hate God so much? I mean what is you motivation for coming against us? Do you feel guilty?
Christians are compelled to share our faith, I am certian that we don't always do it correctly, but these are troubled times, I believe a message of peace in Christ is in order. Why are you compelled to share your unfaith, or come against us if you don't believe? Are you worried about a God you don't believe in? Are you concerned about your lifestyle being wrong?

Because they tell us it isn't? How can we be sure that we don't just hear what they want us to hear?

This is a question that cought me because I realize by past experience that latinos who are short and look indians seems to prefer whites than black.

White/mulatto Hispanic like Cubans, Puerto Rican, Brazilians,Venezuelans seems to understand black people much better.I wonder if it because they have more African blood than central American.

I hope to be wrong but this is the feeling I get her in Montreal and am not influence by the black/Mexican hate phenomenon. I base those fact on past experience during my life.

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! James 2:19
Does this sound like your belief in Jesus?

I wrote an email to a client - a helpful email mind you sending her information she requested- and she writes -
"why are you sending information with exclamation points at the end. Is supplying this information so that it is accessible causing you some sort of excitement.
Also in my last email I let you know the PDFs worked so there is no need to continue with the screen shots."
this is what i had written which caused such rudeness-
"Subject : try this!
if this file doesnt work for you i will figure something out!"
I work in Ad sales for an internet company. I wrote back apologies to the client and copied my boss. but i feel completely insulted ! (exclamation point)
what can someone in my position do/ say to the client that tells them first, that i'm sorry for being so "unprofessional" but also lets them know how rude they are in turn? i'm very hurt by this as i have great relations with my clients and am very nice and sincere in my emails. i know its not personal but ouch!

The argument that science is a religion is so absurd it's beyond words. But I have a question for all you fundies anyways. Ignoring the fact that most scientists in America are Christians, let's assume that science really is a religion. My science religion has produced cars, trains, computers, planes, houses, cd's, tv's, and much much more. What has your Christians religion given us besides a boring 1 hour lecture every sunday?

I run into this occasionally and don't understand.. I have heard many silly remarks about historical troubles but there is no over 2 century old organization with over 1.1 billion members which has not had hiccups - a few historical events do not invalidate the Roman Catholic Church. And the Roman Catholic Church has many many devout holy Priests.. I wish that someone would explain this to me. Thank you!

Hi, I want to just tell you before anything that I am a Wiccan, So I appreciate all religions, My Great Grandma was in a nursing home for maybe a month and a half. She had please forgive the spelling but I will spell it like it sounds, Altimers. She would not eat, She was starving herself to death, And the reason I ask this is because today she died, And she was a devout Catholic. So would you please say a prayer?

I bought a deck yesterday...I thought that they'd be cool to try, so I tried them out...nothing bad happened...I think that the only two reasons I have an inclination to discard them is, for one thing, I don't want my mom finding out that I have them...and two, my friend won't take them because she says that sometimes they bring about bad omens...don't get me wrong, I think that they're cool, I just need a way to either hide them in my room where there's not many places that aren't obvious to hide things, or I need a way to get rid of them without returning them cuz my mom won't let me go back to the place where I got them alone...I went with my friend when I bought them...

I REALLY need some advice right now...on either their disposal or their safekeeping...

please help if you can...it would be greatly appreciated... =)

In Los Angeles, they had the gay "pride" parade, which for the most part, seems to be a lot of people slapping themselves on the back that they got "pride"...but we fired God, because the X-mas parade, well, we don't want to hear about God, that's uncomfortable(to virtually all of America, since we are culturally, ethically, and morally bankrupt).

I have never been able to understand this gay "pride" thing...I have never stated with any enthusiasm to anyone that I am straight(or why would anyone care?). It's like buying a very nice car to impress people who don't even know me, let alone care about me.

Is there something more the participants of the parade have to offer the world, or humanity, than their sexualy identity?

I know for a fact that many Christians are intelligent, insightful, and learned men and women, and no doubt some of them are readers of Q&As here. Why oh why do you stand mute and not speak up when beyond-the-pale, snivelling, geeky nit-wits here give your religion a really bad name, with their pointless juvenile babbling and hate and un-Christian, Dark Ages ignorance? Do you care for your faith so little?
