My friend and I just went to apply for jobs at the local minimall. We stopped at the Mcdonalds and requested applications.

1 - The lady speaks to us in spanish. Her english is poor and through hand gestures and other employees, we manage to get "job applications" across.
2 - We are given applications which are in Spanish.
3 - We request ones in english, but are told they dont have any. Not "we are out". Dont have any.

I live in Northern Virginia. Last time I checked, our spanish community here wasnt that large. Furthermore, this is an english-speaking country.

Why is it that,
a cultural icon of america
a place where 70% of americans have worked at one time or another

Cannot give me an application in english???

Btw, we're teenagers. We can't exactly go apply to be the next CEO or something. We're limited in options.

Well I'm the friend he refers to up there. It's somewhat ridiculous. I sympathize with people trying to improve thier lives, but I believe that if you want to live in a country, you need to know the language of said country. Not being racist here, all I'm saying is that you need to learn to get by, so you need to learn to communicate in a language a majority of the population understands. I find it ridicuolous that the country's immigration is so out of hand that people who speak the lagnuage of America, English, cannot apply for a job at McDonalds, an american company.

I'd just print a standard employment application off the internet, fill it out and take it back early in the day. Ask to see the manager and let him or her know what had happened. If he or she are Hispanic, then I wouldn't say anything except that they didn't have any English formed applications at the time you came to apply. The Hispanic population in this country has grown to more than 50%. If you are black or caucasion, you are a minority. It's just the way it is...

If you're interested in applying for a job at McDonald's, you're not in a position to snub anybody. Sorry!
