Money doesn't make you happy just makes being miserable affordable

Money can really screw people up, and it takes them away from the real pleasures of life. If you have a lot of money you're probably tied to a tough job, and that means you don't get a lot of time with your family or friends. And you have to pay a lot of taxes, which can be aggravating. And really, it just distances you from the cheap, simple pleasures... people forsake fishing with their kids to watch the game on the big screen, and stop taking walks in the woods because they'd rather take a cruise through the Carribean.

That's not to say that poor people are happier either... that would really suck to say the least if you couldn't afford food, clothes, medicine, or shelter. But it does seem like the poor have a far more realistic outlook on life.

In societies that are doing well economically many people that live in them grow up with the misconception that in order to be happy they must be rich. There are a lot of money obsessed people. However not everyone in these countries are rich, in fact not many people are, and this leads a lot of us to feel unsatisfied. Money isn't happiness. I think that family, love, a relationship with God (or a higher power as you see it) and the ability to find satisfaction no matter what your situation can lead you to true happieness.

Some are very happy. This is like a Christian saying but, some say they would rather be unhappy in the USA than happy in a third world country

That's not something that can be measured. Happiness is a state of mind not something permanent and it can change from day to day. With that being said, some believe that hard manual work is what our bodies were intended to do and sitting at a desk working can help promote obesity and depression. With that being said that's not an argument if it can't be measured and frankly a blanket un-true statement. Hell if you can't prove it you can't prove my statement wrong can you?

What makes you think they aren't? I've been to poorer parts of the world, and there is a lot of unhappiness in the world. Issues such as "same sex marriage" are a luxury that we squabble about. Wars, famine, and repression in other countries puts "same sex marriage" not even on the back page in other countries.

Because with many people its the more you have the more you want. They dont realise having less is better because there is less work and you get more free time to enjoy the natural pleasures of life. Another thing is what you havent seen you dont desire so you are easily satisfied with things and life in general.

Happier than who?

I can't say I see images of pure glee and happiness when I see tv coverage of the likes of parts of Africa, Asia and the slums of Brasil

back in the day $100K was considered a very good income, you could live on it.

now that's nothing we're living on credit cards and in general beyond our means to "keep up with the Jones'"

interest rates are high, taxes are high and $100K isn't enough.

we're stressed out about paying off our debts, we need to work more to do that. more work causes stressors that leads to divorce, depression and other bad stuff.

the reason why they are so unhappy is because money doesn't buy happiness. Just like the song. material possessions don't end up making you happy because you keep on needing more and more and you become addicted to many unneeded material possessions
