I think that people believe what they are told. Somebody tells them that Catholics worship idols so they assume it is true, etc.
I think that if most of the people who claim that Catholics aren't Christian really knew the Church's teachings they wouldn't continue to criticize it.

I think a lot of it is old ethnic prejudices: Scots-Irish who maybe inherited their distaste for Catholics from an old family tradition to have something against them.
I hope the Internet may be a force that harnesses the energies of all Christians, and gets them working together for Christ. There are sometimes positive signs that this will happen in our lifetimes!

Archbishop Fulton Sheen, a man loved by people of all faiths because of his zeal for ecumenism, once said, "There are not over a 100 people in the U.S. that hate the Catholic Church, there are millions however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church -- which is, of course, quite a different thing."

Worshiping Mary and the Pope are my main issues. They claim that Mary is over God and Jesus and that they must listen to her. Even Jesus said in the Bible that she was just another woman. All knowing God knew that the Catholics would someday worship her and build idols of her and so he specifically put it in the Bible that she was just another woman. Not someone to idolize. Same with the pope. After Jesus' death there was no longer any need for a go between. We are supposed to have a personal relationship with Christ and God now. The Catholic church says you have to go through them for forgiveness. Guess they missed the whole point of Jesus sacrifice.
Also- the have their own text and do not require their parishioners to read the Bible, nor do they recommend it. Why would they. They don't want them finding out the truth.

I don't know, when I was a Protestant, we did not bash Catholics.
Now that I am a Catholic, I don't bash Protestants, (Our Brothers and Sisters in Jesus)
It is said that very few hate the Catholic Church but Millions and Millions hate what they THINK the Catholic Church is.
How any Christian could think that Catholics are not Christians is sad and shows a lack of knowledge of the Catholic faith. Those that bash should question where they are getting their information from.
Peace and God Bless!

As the Holy Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ (by the way, this notion is based on the Bible), it should not surprise you that Catholics are despised and insulted, for such was Christ Himself treated.

Well, I'm most familiar with Joel Olsteen & the Scott's (TV)... and Joel's always quoting Pope John Paul II & Mother Teresa (Catholics)... sounds like we get along.

Prime Example is momof2..we"worship Mary and the Pope", "Mary is above God", that is so odd, i'm Catholic and i never knew that or was thought that. another person who is assuming instead of researching and inquiring.

If we believe the Bible and care about souls we can neither be passive about deception but seek to point people to the way of salvation. The Bible shows that every man is a sinner, who is entirely destitute of any merit - even by good works done by God's grace - whereby he may gain Heaven or escape his just punishment in Hell (Rm. 3:9-23). Thus he must look toward Christ, the Son of the living God, for salvation, trusting in His sinless blood which He shed in His death on the cross to pay for our sins, and then rose again (Rm. 3:25 - 5:1). This must be must done whole-heartedly, out of a contrite heart, which realizes his desperate need for salvation (Ps. 34:18), and that wants Christ over sin in his heart (Jn. 3:19-21; Acts 20:21). And rests all His faith for salvation directly on Him (Acts 13:39; Eph. 2:8, 9). Such a true decision results in the forgiveness of sins and being born again by the Spirit of Christ (Acts 10: 43; 15:7; Eph. 1:13). And which decision is shown by being baptized under water the way the Bible shows (Acts 8:36, 37)
While Catholicism believes facts regarding Christ and his death and resurrection, rather than working to brings souls to realize their desperate need for salvation and an earnest conversion by faith directly in Christ alone, Rome teaches it's multitudes that they become Christians (usually) when they were sprinkled with water as a baby (R.C. "baptism"), and then throughout their life She fosters faith and reliance on the RC Institution for salvation, as we well as ones own merits. By God's grace they assure you, but which is a false gospel (Gal. 2:16; Titus 3:5). And those that preach a false gospel, are accursed according to the Holy Spirit (Gal. 1:6-9), as what “gospel” one believes determines where they will spend eternity.
I myself was raised as a devout and strict Catholic, with two uncles who were priests, but i was just like most everyone else in the Catholic church, which is spiritually dead. I never heard one message that could have brought me to realize my real need for salvation, bu when i was about 25 i sincerely repented and trusted Christ for salvation, and then realized a definite heart and life chang which continued. I tried to serve God within the Catholic church as a lector and CCD teacher, but as i saw the clear contrast between the Bible and what happened to me (despite my faults) versus what Rome taught and produced, the LORD led me out into a born again church, That was the second best spiritual decision i made. And i urge all to give the sins and life directly to the Lord Jesus and follow Him. He will make it worth it all.

Mostly ignorance. Folks listen to their preachers spewing hatred and lies, and instead of finding out for themselves, they keep spreadin the lies.
Catholicism is very much biblically based.
