It's stopped me from being disorganized and needlessly indirect on a few issues. Though I can't think of a situation where I've really said "Well I'd like to do this activity, but it's against my religion", if that's what you mean. If religion is the ONLY thing that prevents some people from stealing or murdering, then have some serious self-responsibility issues to think about.

For me, taking up my religion was mostly a matter of finding the most accurate label for what I already believed, knowing that I was hardly the only person on the planet who felt the way I did.

I began to question religion at a very young age, while sitting in church, actually; I can not recall feeling any fear in wondering whether or not god might actually have been another fabrication by adults, such as Santa Claus, et al. I have explored all manner of alternative beliefs during my experience as an agnostic -- and have reached no definite conclusions; I lack the capacity to believe, apparently. Anyway, religion (unless you consider it the sole source for ethics and morality, which I do not) has not prevented me from living my life freely and enjoying the quest for enlightenment. I think that, if god does exist, he understands me and my faithlessness, and, if there is no god, then I am thankful not to have spent my time fearing that there is a vengeful deity waiting to condemn me to Hell!

It stopped me from getting a college degree. I was in my second year of college when I started "studying" with Jehovah's witnesses. They said then what they say now -- "why invest your time and effort in a dying system?" So I quit college after that second year.

And I stuck with them for my entire adult life... until about five years ago when I realized they DON'T speak with the voice of authority from God and their rationalization of all their mistakes and outright lies as "new light from God" was absolutely false.

I was already a good, moral person before they got me. I was probably exposed to just as many bad people on the inside as I would have been otherwise -- maybe more.

My first husband was a JW whom I left when he tried to kill me. There's no provision in their religion for attempted murder as a reason for divorce. Fortunately, he immediately moved another woman into our house. THAT gave me "spiritual grounds."

Although I am Christian I do not adhere to a religion because I believe that God is not about religion but relationship. Anyways with that said my belief has saved me from hell and pulled me away from depression (used to have it not anymore) it has stopped me from being fearful of failure and so much more. It is all I have to live for.

Thinking first of myself. My religion and my personal study of the Bible show me that doing God's will is the only way to be happy, and the only hope for the future. So I try to think about what God would prefer, or as they used to say, ask what would Jesus do if he were still a human on earth? Jesus said it would not be those claiming to be Christian, but those doing the will of his Father in the heavens who would have his approval.

I have always believed in GOD so I can't say st oped, but I can say prevented. My faith in a final judgment, and the idea of being held accountable for my actions has prevented me from...
Raping and pillaging whenever I take the notion, taking whatever I want from whomever I want, not respecting others rights, killing innocent people for fun, taking guns to school for the sole purpose of killing students and teachers, committing suicide or any other crazy act done by people who have nothing to look forward to after death.

My Faith in The Lord Jesus Christ has helped me to overcome, addiction to sex, pornography, drugs, smoking, swearing, objectifying women, self destuctive behavior etc..

By the power of the Holy Spirit I have come closer to the knowledge of the Lord Jesus and The Father God, to understand His will for me, to understand and to proclaim His word to all people. To use my gifts and abilities for His glory and not my own. Mostly God has taught me I still ahve a ways to go in this life, but to those things that are of the flesh contrary to God, He has taught me to say no. He speaks of His love for me every day, and for His love for all His creation.

If you would like to know of this relationship, read The book of 1st John, for a week. Then read the Gospel of John for 30 days (a chapter or two at a time). Understand you are a sinner, and you need to be forgiven, and accept jesus as your savior. Find a church that teaches Christ and has good worship and praise. And live each day for the Lord.

It has stopped me from being blinded by secular society and desires. I'm still blinded from time, to time, but for the most part I'm able to see through many of the folly's people get trapped in which free's me from despair, and other painful things.

Where I live all there is here is mostly churches. When I see how these supposedly "Christians" treat people who are poor, or not in their league it really makes me angry. So I guess my religion has stopped me from believing.
