Whenever I read the Bible, and especially the first books of the OT, I honestly wonder why decent Christian folk do not discard it...all the slaughter, genocide, rape, incest, human and animal sacrifice, talking bushes and talking snakes, etc., etc. Everyone who knows even a little bit about the Bible knows it was written and edited again and again, and changed again and again, by walking, talking human beings. Why, then, not give it a new life and bring it up to our time, the 21th century? Bronze Age desert nomads aren't the best role models, that's for sure. Hey, you merry ancients, you were wrong, the world is not flat.

Hi,Folks,
Apologies if this question should be under health, or moral issues,but anyway,here goes....
The no smoking ban comes into force in the UK on July 1st- Churches have been exempted from having to display 'No smoking' signs on their buildings. However,according to a report in the 'New Scientist' magazine,August 2001,burning incense during church rituals produces smoke containing carcinogens,so you're exposing the congregation to nasty chemicals.
Am I missing something here,or is there a moral issue? I know incense isn't used that often,but they keep telling us only 1 cigarette is 1 too many.
Your thoughts please.

Let's try to have a real philisophical Q and A here.. Let's put aside the Christian bashing, the Athiest hating.. Be as long winded in your answer as you would like. But lets hear some theories...

Over the history of humankind we have had gods. These gods have been in many forms and types. They have served their believers and their believers have served them. These gods have performed all kinds of miracles.

The Roman or Greek gods, for instance have now moved to myth status, when only a few thousand years ago they healed the sick, struck fear into the hearts of their enemies, and did things that "proved" their existence to their believers.

But as time passed these gods no longer perform miracles. They no longer give their blessings, or do the things that made them gods. Also there are not many people who believe in the Roman or Greek gods like they used to.

Does faith give power to gods, or do gods give power to faith?

I was invited to a graduation by my boyfriends parents. We met with them near the graduation hall when it was over. They didnt say hi or anything.. didnt even aknoledged that I was there,so I didnt greet them.After we left my boyfriend told me that I should have greeted them first because they were there first. my dream, I was on my way home, and I wanted to fly home(you ever fly in your dreams) so I went up in the air and all this mist came around me. I could not control my flying or see, I strugled to go this way, but I couldnt. I was going another way. Then I fell from the sky, I'm clawing to grab somthing, and my hands blead. Do you hate how everyone celebrates christmas, they take the meaning out of it, it is the day Christ was born onto this earth, not frosty the snow man, and santa, (which make no sence, because you would just be saying saint) I do beleive that ST. Nicolas was once alive and did what he did, but people keep blowing him out of proportion.
The hole cristmas season is lost to Great low prices, and Great gifts....does anyone even know why they are getting the gifts any more? Also all those movies where every thing goes wrong...And at the end they talk about the true meaning of Christmas.....and its not even the TRUE meaning, its just some crap about loving and giving, and not say one thing about JESUS, to make all the non christians happy, when its a christian holiday, so why the hell do we need to cater to the non christians! You cannot take Crist out of Christmas, is IMPOSSIBLE Christ -mas. Tell me all you non christians, why do you celebrate Christmas?

I hate religion w/ a passion. I can't stand how corrupt it is and how sick and perverted it is. I believe in a relationship w/ God and that Jesus covers every sin. Even the repeated ones. Does anybody else feel the same way or do you follow a bunch of rules thinking its the way to get to heaven?
