Volunteer at an animal shelter. You can do this alone or as a group (if you are old enough); i.e. you can go as a group one night a week and help with the dogs or the cats. Ask the animal shelter if there are any bigger projects you can work on.

Your spca or humane society always needs help. Donating to a kitty rescue centre is always good as well.
There are groups like the World Wildlife Fund you could volunteer with .
How about raising awareness and money for service animals, like guide dogs or dogs who help deaf and physically immobile people. Therapy dogs who go visit in hospitals and seniors homes are also a good cause to help out with.
