Is it just not the same anymore?
for instance when I was a small child we had very little for choice of what to have for christmas I remember once getting a slinky and appreciating it my brother got a game where you had to flick frogs and try to make them land in a bowl/saucer. and for a joint prezzie we got that fantastic game mouse trap and some sweets and that was it. and as a gift to our mum we gave her a framed photo of her beloved dog copper.(we weren't members of the aristocracy as you may have guessed) in fact we were quite poor. nowadays tho television seems to do it's very best to belittle you into buying as much as possible for your kids and if you dont they behave like a degenerate until you rush off out and buy the most expensive battery operated remote control car just so they can chase the cat round the room with it forcing poor kitty to climb the curtains!

whatever happened to a nice christmas where the family having a good time and being together really mattered?

I dont feel it is necasarry to ask of a persons race, also
why is there not a section for afro-carribeans they are not the same as african americans. I come from 2 jamaican parents there for i call myself jamaican american, as you would call a mexican with 2 mexican parents mexican american i refuse to put down other! some of other black races do not want to be in the same catagory due to the fact they are very different from the afro-american race.

If a country has a dictator, he usually rules by fear. yes the crime rates are low, life has the "illusion" of being perfect. People are given rules to live by, most just common sense, but how they will be punished if they don't follow them or "worship" the dictator.

It's a choice, worship and vote for the dictator and he will give you a better life than if you choose to vote against him.

Anyone see any similarity here?

That's why I am atheist. I will not be forced into worshiping a bully and dictator. Not that I beleive he exists, but IF I am wrong I will stand by my choice NOT to have beleived in god or worshiped him. I live my life without harming anyone and the so called "sins" that I was apparently born with I fail to see how a child has any sin at all??? I have learned by my mistakes and lived my life continually improving myself and others lives. If that's not good enough then TOUGH!!! To me being damned for eternity is far to severe a punishment for living a good life.

It isn't like it can be proved one way or another, right? (it's these absolutes that intrigue me...we as a society have a tendancy to believe whatever "they" say, lmao!

Of others? Of people asking questions, even though they may have been asked before? When I was growing up, I learned from a very well educated and well respected teacher......No question is a stupid one if you really want to understand something.

Why does society, and perhaps even mostly so the internet, encourage us to use a "mob mentality" to make others feel stupid for asking questions and wanting to clarify facts or learn more?

Yes, some are repeated....but frankly, I think they are repeated because the answers given are not serious ones, and the asker needs more info. Or the readers need more info...better info. If all the answers stink, then we HAVE to ask again and again until we get a real answer. As opposed to the bashing.....

But the bashing continues....with each asking. Like a snowball out of control.

Where did we, as a civilized society, learn this was OK? To devalue curiousity and questions?

I am always interested in different and unique traditions that people have during the Christmas season. It is interesting to see how this holiday is so unique for people in different regions. If you have a really cool tradition -- i'd love to learn about it!

I want to buy my neighbors something for the holidays, or take something to their house as a nice gesture on Christmas Eve. I am not going to be doing any baking this year. But I just want to extend a nice gesture to two neighbors/families. Any ideas ??
They both have children 5 and under.

I have been dating this guy for not very long. The subject came up about holiday gifts. I have a couple of little things for him, no big deal. He wants to know what I want, and I have no idea what to tell him. I don't want him to go out of his way or spend too much money. And the truth is, we don't know each other extremely well. But he keeps asking and I can't think of anything. I'm about 2 seconds away from declaring no gifts. Does anybody have a suggestion?

I don't really like her, but I do respect her. And of course I have to pretend to like her.

From what i've seen here, I highly doubt it. We pagans try to merely talk about our faith with one another and sometimes compare ourselves with christianity, because we hold many similar ties. and the first thing the christians do...
BLASPHEMY! YOU FALSE GOD WORSHPERS!

Since Pagan emperor Julian we have strived to live peacefully alongside all religions. Tolerance is the one key value of paganism. All we want is to live ad talk "respectively" with other people and have down to earth talks based on common history, NOT their bible. thats like talking to a jew useing the Q'uaran...stop it
You have to learn how to communicate on our level, and we do the same for you.

So dont say we wordship false gods. Thats very disrespectful. Your religion may say we are woprshiping false gods, but that ccording to your point of view, but bite your tounge, have courtesy and manners to your fellow man and respect his beliefs, weve been here longer than your religion, we atleast deserve respect.

I was previously very involved with a Baptist church but now attend one that is "Charismatic". For a while I hard a hard time reconciling the difference in beliefs (but at the same time was intrigued). However, I have since searched the scriptures and discovered that the teachings all seem to ring true. I have prayed for the Baptism but have yet to notice anything different. For instance, I have yet to recieve my spiritual language (It's been several months). Could it be that I didn't receive the Baptism or am I just being impatient? It seems that if I have actually been "touched" by the Spirit of God that I would have noticed.

Before you say, that Muhammad was obviously fake, please remember that the jews say that Jesus was also obviously fake

'Truly, you (O Muhammad SAW) are one of the Messengers,
On a Straight Path (i.e. on Allah's religion of Islamic Monotheism).
(This is) a Revelation sent down by the AllMighty, the Most Merciful,
In order that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are heedless.' (Qur'an 36:3-6)
