Of others? Of people asking questions, even though they may have been asked before? When I was growing up, I learned from a very well educated and well respected teacher......No question is a stupid one if you really want to understand something.

Why does society, and perhaps even mostly so the internet, encourage us to use a "mob mentality" to make others feel stupid for asking questions and wanting to clarify facts or learn more?

Yes, some are repeated....but frankly, I think they are repeated because the answers given are not serious ones, and the asker needs more info. Or the readers need more info...better info. If all the answers stink, then we HAVE to ask again and again until we get a real answer. As opposed to the bashing.....

But the bashing continues....with each asking. Like a snowball out of control.

Where did we, as a civilized society, learn this was OK? To devalue curiousity and questions?

Now that was a thoughtful question and observation. I propose these as possible contributors to the problems you raise:
1) There is a certain naivete (or gross assumption) about the questions and answers posited. This is not a simultaneous forum within which people post - it happens linearly. So, people will post questions (and even answers) that have been posted before because they haven't looked at the archives (which do exist), or, when they logged in, they just happen to miss a similar question (or answer as the case may be).
2) It is much easier to be critical than correct
3) Some people view these boards much like some who would shoot fish in a barrel. (see #2 above).
4) Some are cynical of the idea that these boards can actually be a meaningful forum and couch their questions and answers as a satirical commentary
5) Some try to be funny (some very hard and failing nonetheless).

Like any other forum, one has to wade through the muck to get to the good stuff. Keep looking. It's not all tripe.

I agree. It seems that people feel it more of a job to be mannerable, as opposed to the WAY we should react or respond to eachother. I also agree that the answers given are NOT always serious, but crude and ignorant. I suppose that there is NO answer to your question, besides. treat and react and respond to others as we would want others to do for us.

With some people it has to with childhood misfortunes. My family is jacked up, but I couldn't ever let myself get that way. So now I'm just one more nice person for people to have relieve for. People have a choice to be ignorant, or welcoming. It's not all about what or who has done them wrong. They have the ability but want to waste it. They are just all into the negative.

All you and I can do is choose to NOT be a part of the mob.

With all this your side my side seperation leading to increased aniamosity I'm just glad it hasn't escalated to the same level as Fatah and Hamas or Shiite and Sunni actions. Can you imagine Republicans and Democrats or Protestants and Catholics going at it like they do?

It's easier to be rude when you're not face to face with someone.
