I always find that the holidays make me feel a little down because it reminds me of people that I loved who have passed away. So I cheer myself up by doing things for other people that really need the help.
For example, this year, I sent a huge box of mittens to a very poor neighbourhood school to pass out to their students. I am also throwing a big Christmas party and invited lots of people who have had a very rough year, or who are alone for the holidays. Lastly I will be spending an evening with someone who is dying and doesn't want to be alone.
It makes me feel much better to do what I can to help other people. It helps me get away from the commercialization of Christmas and feel reconnected with other people and share the real spirit behind Christmas.

I can share with you a few good deeds that I do and NOT just around the christmas seasons
I have a car always able to give someone a lift
home at night or during the day if they don't have enought bus tokens.
I have extra foods sometime so I would give it to someone I know that could use it and not have to go to waste.
I pet sitting (its like babysitting for a baby but I'm watching and caring their pet while they are gone on vacation.)
Love dogs and cats.
well, you gets the idea. Its just simple everyday stuff on giving a helping hand each day. I try to keep my eyes and ears open on helping everyday do AT least one good deed a day will keep the depression away..lol..
Love and Peace Happy Holiday! :-)

Well, one deed involved several. Every year I do a city Secret Santa where you get a needy child's description of what they want and need and wrap up the gifts and deliver to the local fire station for distribution. This year I did that and also shopped for a Salvation Army Angel Tree eldery lady wanting a comforter and some personal things, the Humane Society had a gift tree where you picked an envelope and it stated a needy item(s) and I fulfilled it (several huge metal buckets). I delivered used clothing and coats to the local Family homeless shelter; I bought several toys for the US Marines "Toys for Tots" barrels in most of the stores I shop at, and I donated to our local Senior Citizens Nutrition Center that also makes and delivers the 'Meals on Wheels' program. Lastly, I volunteer at a local soup kitchen on Christmas Eve and Day - all in a wheelchair! I do get around!

I have these neighbors across the street and the mother works her butt off at a minimum wage job at fast food joint all year long and the father stays home and drinks beer and smokes weed all day! She busts her butt trying to pay bills while he does NOTHING and it just makes me so angry and makes me feel so badly for her and the kids! So I bought all the kids a gift and I bought her a basket with bubble bath-lotions,candles, and a new pair of jammies so after busting her butt every day she can relax in a hot bubble bath with candle lite and jump into a new pair of jammies. The hubby? I got him a gift of snow man poopp! Maybe he will get the hint!

I went to walmart and purchased toys for 6 children from the salvation army instead of buying 6 more presents for my kids. They agreed that they already had more than enough presents under the tree so my kids and I had a great time buying gifts for 6 kids

I donated a gift basket to a benefit for auction/raffle for a very sick man that I went to school with. He has a wife and 2 small children. He just got home from the hospital after being in for 7 weeks. His wife has been unable to work because she was at the hospital with him; they didnt know if he would live.

I used to be such a grouch in giving gifts to far relatives who come by the house and ask for money or gifts. This time, I realized that it wouldn't hurt to give with all my heart. Instead of giving them the regular gifts I used to give them, I made each gift extra special by giving things that they would really appreciate. It caused a lot on my budget but I dknew it was all worth it.

For the 12 days of Christmas I have been getting presents every night. On the 14th The card said "On the first say of xmas my true love gave to me" and so on. It is so sweet coming home to a gift every night! On the first night I got a book, second night 2 spatulas, third night-3 pairs of socks, fourth night- 4 shirts, fifth night- 5 tea towels. I dont even know who it is! Its cute, and I think it's my mom.
