I was previously very involved with a Baptist church but now attend one that is "Charismatic". For a while I hard a hard time reconciling the difference in beliefs (but at the same time was intrigued). However, I have since searched the scriptures and discovered that the teachings all seem to ring true. I have prayed for the Baptism but have yet to notice anything different. For instance, I have yet to recieve my spiritual language (It's been several months). Could it be that I didn't receive the Baptism or am I just being impatient? It seems that if I have actually been "touched" by the Spirit of God that I would have noticed.

Well, I was 15. I was at the altar because there had been a altar call about this and other things. Anyway, I went up and my Pastor asked me why I was there. Anyway, I told him and he said, "It's already yours". That really impressed. I remember being afraid to open my mouth because I was afraid of blaspheming the Holy Spirit. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Anyway, I remember it being a leap of faith. It's like I had to be the one to open my mouth to get the gift, but once I made the step, the Holy Spirit gave me the words. It's interesting because it's not like He just falls on you and overtakes your body. God is a gentleman. You can start it and stop it. I remember praying for two of my friends to get this (and I saw both of them get it too). Anyway, the pastor there said to one friend. "The Holy Spirit always wants to speak. When we pray in the Spirit, we're giving him opportunity to do that." It's a mixture of faith, initiative, and God.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Speaking in tongues (or spiritual speaking) is a gift from the Holy Spirit, but not everyone gets it. I, too, prayed for it, but it never happened. That's when someone showed me in the Bible the different gifts God gives us, but we don't all get all of them.

If you were baptised and prayed for God to come into your heart, then you do have the Holy Spirit living within you. It doesn't change how you feel. It changes how you live your life. And one day you will notice that you have so much joy within you that it just wants to bubble over. A friend of mine describes being a Christian is like having a party inside. I loved that description.

Get your Bible and read about the gifts God gives you. I'll bet you will find that you already have several of them.

I prayed for years before I received the baptism and spoke in tongues. When it actually happened it seemed so simple. We were at a meeting and the speaker said a prayer and said now believe you've received it and speak out. I just opened my mouth in faith and there it was. Some people around me didn't get it though. On that night...

It will be worth the wait, be patient and keep praying. Don't give up!

I was told when I was baptized that I came up, if not "speaking in toungues", but praising God in speak next to it. Spiritual gifts or "gifts of the Spirit" are different for everyone. Some people have the gift of discernment, prophecy, healing, etc.

It's not the same for everybody. I think maybe you are being impatient. I know I would feel "left out" when everyone in church would speak in tongues, and I couldn't. I don't worry about that anymore because I feel as long as you worship God with an honest heart that's all that matters.

I'm relatively confused on what exactly the question is, especially with the vague details of what you experienced. I know there are some christians who ive encountered or are extremely deceptive, they have profound bible knowledge but seem to ignore or skip over the parts that contradict their premise.

maybe God doesn't want you to have a falling down, shaking on the floor experience. maybe that is not HIS plan for your life. maybe He would prefer to speak to you/through you in a still, small voice. try asking God what HIS will is for you and ask HIM to reveal His Will and His Spirit to you...if you seek HIS will you'll get the right answers everytime. God Bless!
