In Iraq, quite possibly at the moment I'm writing this, people are being tortured with electric drills and skinned alive. Would you want there to be a god who thought it was a good thing to let that happen, and not intervene? Countless other atrocities are and have been perpetrated in this world. A god would have to be sickeningly callous and uncaring at best, and unspeakably evil at worst, to preside over such a world with all its horror and suffering. I just despair that people are foolish enough to believe in the existence of a god, let alone to praise and worship what would clearly have to be a monster in any decent person's judgment. It does not reflect at all well on the character of religious believers. We should all be grateful that gods are nothing more than a human fiction.

Welcome to the new USA. Under a new leader now, they are extremely strict about religion. All religions. In fact, you've been documented on EXACTLY what religion you believe.

And it's on your creditcard. And all of your information.

And there are a lot of police. Everywhere.

The only rule is that you have to keep at the beliefs of your religion -- or lack there of... otherwise you're sent to jail for life!

Every ten years you're allowed to switch religions... if your religion permits it. So, if you're in jail and change your religion 10 years after being there or whatever, and you adhere to your religion, you're set free.

So, state your religion. Would you end up in jail?

A poll by ABC News in 2004 showed that 60% of Americans believe in a literal interpretation of the Noah fairy tale.

Who are these nutters and how can they be avoided next time I visit the U.S.?

So I grew up in California, and we had an apricot tree in the backyard. My mom, dad, as well as the rest of my extended family all pronounced it "ape-rih-cot." They are all extremely well educated and my mom's a writer, so they know how to pronounce words.

I moved to Connecticut a few years later, and I found out that EVERYONE pronounces it "ahp-rih-cot." Is this an East Coast vs. West Coast thing? Tomayto tomahto? The question has dogged me most of my life!

Here's the deal: I don't like wearing black or lots of makeup (I know this stuff is stereotyping and I'm sorry) but I do like a lot of books and music that are classified as goth -- 4AD, Rasputina and the Cure and things like that in terms of music, and early gothic novels, poetry and horror of pretty much any kind in terms of books. I've also found that, when looking for friends, goths and I usually get along pretty well -- we tend to have the same interests and similar cultural references. But, like I said, I don't like dressing in "typical" gothic fashion and I don't have much interest in going to clubs. What does this make me? And, really, does it matter?

Is it a spiritual possession? Mental illness? I asked a question before about my neighbor's daughter http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ahtv5hOhQoYDlgN81Blu5mjsy6IX?qid=20061014073316AA54wng

and now, things are getting worse. I meditated on this last night after she left my home talking to me, and I know beyond equivocation that she is full of more bullshit than a Christmas turkey is stuffing. However, she has her mother so worried that she is now seeking a witchdoctor to "help" her. These clearly are marks made by a razor blade, all over her face, arms and neck...all places she can easily reach.

Why do people cut themselves? What spiritual void are they trying to fill? What are they trying to fill? This kid has a lot of stuff going on in her life, and I am certain her current state of affairs has something to do with this. It seems she wants attention, but why the hell would anyone slice themselves up to get that?

Mohamad had issues and about doctrine he wrote about stuff that an 'angel' told him as well as he said he was told to marry a 9 year old little girl! Yet Islam holds to its leader and defends him-when he says Jesus never died, against the bible and history, and Mohamad rewrote history.

Aisha was 6 a muslim (wonder what that means-is that a ped ophilia cult) when she was engaged to 37 year old Mohamad, and culminated the marriage as a little 9 year old girl.
Would you trust this kind of person around your sister-i dont believe in violence-but i might get violent to protect my little sister from this horrible kind of person-what would you do?
Jesus said one man for one woman-not a little girl! and "The pastor is to be the husband of one wife" Do you have a pastor??

Well I'm Jewish and I think about this because, I got kicked out of my synogue for believing Jesus when he said "You must repent and be born again by letting me in to see the kingdom of heaven-John 3-
no?

I believe this question can be easily answered with psychology. This erratic emotional behavior is triggered by the attachment people have to protagonist (hero) of a story. Jesus was the ultimate protagonist in the bible because of his heroic act of “dying for the sins of mankind”. The child who was raised as a Christian develops an emotional attachment to Jesus and gets really offended if another person mocks their hero.

This also relates to comic book heroes and other protagonist. If a person was a fan of Superman, they usually would get very offended if another person mocks superman or draws Superman getting killed. Parents are also considered heroes to their children and are also emotionally attached to their parents and tend to get extremely upset if anyone mocks them.

What do you think about my claims? Does it make rational sense to you?

Please feel free to add to or argue my statement.

If you were to question your beliefs, where would you go? Would you go outside of the "normal" route (holy texts, spiritual leaders, etc.) or not? Why or why not?

I looked up the word Delusion it means "A false belief strongly held in spite of invalidating evidence. Especially as a symptom of mental illness". A web site i came across www.godisimaginary.com describes people who follow religion as delusional. Taking there is no solid concrete proof of god, just stories made up by men, i think this description of the word delusion does describe religion.

What is the most girly Halloween costume you can think of for under about $75. Links or shops are great. We can go all out including nair.

Going through the books of History we come to know that religion has been a source (rather the biggest source) of tension and hostilites between societies. Do we really need to believe in the supernatural toay or should we wait till such a progress in the concerned field of science when we are sure about the things in which we believe.

Isn't it strange that the people are killing each other just for the things which are not even proven to them?

Christians always say to me that i will go to hell if i dont believe in god or accept that he exists, etc. Could anyone elaborate on this?

I myself am a buddhist, and im always eager to learn about other religions and cultures. I have been taught not to ponder on weather a god exists, but just to do good deeds, practise meditation, etc.

If atheists, buddhists, etc perform good deeds and refrain from doing anything evil, then why would they go to hell? surely if your god (if he exists) is loving and kind, he would see that they have been good people and deserve happiness in the afterlife.

thanks
