They don't. You don't have to put anything in the collection plate. However, the elderly are more religious then most having grown up and lived their religion longer. The collection plate is for those who can give, to give. Most of the times, by the time it reaches me in the back, it's fairly empty.

depends upon the Church one attends as our Church does not pass a collection plate. there is a donation box at the entrance and this is sufficient for the purpose.

They don't. Christians give a tithe - 10% - back to the church because they love God and want to worship Him with their offerings. That is why we give.
