In Iraq, quite possibly at the moment I'm writing this, people are being tortured with electric drills and skinned alive. Would you want there to be a god who thought it was a good thing to let that happen, and not intervene? Countless other atrocities are and have been perpetrated in this world. A god would have to be sickeningly callous and uncaring at best, and unspeakably evil at worst, to preside over such a world with all its horror and suffering. I just despair that people are foolish enough to believe in the existence of a god, let alone to praise and worship what would clearly have to be a monster in any decent person's judgment. It does not reflect at all well on the character of religious believers. We should all be grateful that gods are nothing more than a human fiction.

Would you want a God that would allow someone to be sold into slavery then to be accused of rapeing his masters wife and sent to prison? It happened to a man named Joseph but Joseph kept his faith in his GOD. God used this to save a nation.

One of GOD's greatest gifts to us is free will. He gave us the power to chose to do good...or to do evil. If HE did not give us this free will, we would simply be ..robots.

Joseph said that what was intended for evil, God used for good and that does show the power of a loving God that when we do place our trust in HIM, even bad things do turn out good for us. I have seen this happened in Shattered Men many many times and it has happened to me several times also.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I like your reasoning
Out of the hundreds of thousands of years that people have inhabited the earth they have always had the need to look up to something it has only been the last two thousand years give or take a thousand that 'god' has appeared as a thing out there to blindly believe in, the point being that this amount of time being like a grain of sand on a beach compared with the development of man where was 'god' when we believed in objects. All religeons are the result of mans imagination, many times comming from occurances that people did not understand and therefore took on as something to be afraid of and therefore needed to be apeased.
As for do I want there to be a god, it would be nice to think that all the struggles we go through in life was not just to continue ourselves but it would be arogant to think we are any better than any other living thing such as insects that we crush without a second thought, as it is arogant for the followers of the religeons of the world to believe that they are right and have the right to impose their beliefs on others.
If there is a 'god' the question I would also like to pose is why dose this 'god' alow suffering and who has the real one, because each religeon thinks they are right and do not think twice about takeing lives in the name of their 'god'.
If people feel the need to follow a religeon that is fine but the point of most of the religeons are to show people a way to live together to helpand care for oneanother this in it's self must be good.
LET US NOT FORGET THAT IT IS SOME LEADERS OF RELIGEONS THAT FORM THE POLICY AND ENCOURAGE THERE FOLLOWERS TO GO TO WAR NOT THE ORDINARY PEOPLE. THIS APPLIES TO ALL RELIGEONS. THE SAME ALSO APPLIES TO POLITIONS AND COUNTRIES.
We all have free will to do the right thing but some people never will either for power or self gratification.

You see my friend its like this.

You are Tom Cruise. You act in Mission Impossible, Interview with the vampire etc. Both these movies are run on a silverscreen. First one movie gets made - you have a personality in one movie. That movie finishes and you appear again on the silver screen with a new release. You may have died, loved, killed, or been killed in the movie - it doesnt matter. Its just a movie. You just make the next one and move on.

The silver screen = Creation aka world
The movie = Events on earth. eg War on Iraq
The body = the character acting the movie. Jack, John etc
The mind = The emotions you go through before, during and after the movie
The spirit = Tom Cruise

Re-incarnation = You coming back with the next movie
(You could chose to retire if you are done making the money, or happy with the fame - what causes you to come back? DESIRE. Get that out of the way and you wont play another movie again)

And lastly:
God = Director

Its entermainment man at comic level. Take it easy!

But remember Tom Cruise and the Director are in essence the same. God made man in his own image.

There's not much I can say to your question, as you seem 100% convinced, because of the stuff that's going on in the world...easily understandable, tho. And altho I agree with you about the horrors and the suffering, I would have to ask you a question...Do you think that God loves all this suffering? Do you think that God will allow people to do all these horrors to each other and still have global happiness?
So, you don't believe in the existence of God...Ok...lots of people don't, for one reason or another...but...as it's been said, "there are no Athiests in foxholes"...and as for me, I'd rather err on the side of believing in God, than be wrong and not believe.
The bottom line is that the world is all messed up, God is allowing us to learn our lessons on how humans cannot run anything without trusting that we all need God's help. History has shown, without a doubt, that we are incapable of running things, without screwing up!
God is NOT interferring just yet, but He will...don't forget that the God you don't believe in, has given humans something called "free will"...and we have proved that human nature, without God, has created the mess this world is in....It is us who have created this monster of what life actually is; don't blame God. God wanted peace and happiness for all, at the time of creation...

Aww cynicism at its worst., Okay you want to bring up Nietche than I shall try a different one and see if you can guess it. Without evil there can be no good. With the joy of a childs birth, the warmth you feel in an embrace, the passion of a first kiss. How can there not be a god?

Yes, personally I want there to be one, just so people are held accountable for what they do/did.

OK, how about this?

I am going to come over your house, move in, and control every move you make for the rest of your life. I am going to tell you when to get up, what to eat, what to wear, where to go, who to talk to, what to say and not say, when to come home, when to sleep.........and on and on.

Get it? What do you mean no way? No, this is how IT IS GOING TO BE?

Why does this anger you?

Oh, wait. I get it. You want to have more control over your life. You feel you have lived and learned and are capable of making those decisions for yourself. And if you make a mistake? OK, there will be a consequence, but that is to be expected.

Isn't CHOICE a great thing? Aren't you glad you have the ability to make your own?

SO WHY BLAME GOD?

HE gave you that right, the right to choose.

HE laid out some laws, and then allowed us to choose freely. Of course, if we make a mistake, there will be some consequences, but then, that is to be expected.......right?

What kind of a God would he be if he dictated your every move? Not a loving God. Not a caring God.

It is our fault we are the way we are. Would you shoot a newborn baby in the head the minute it sprang from the womb? Of course not. Even though it is probably going to grow up and make some mistakes, maybe some grave ones? Of course not, because that baby has the right to exercise it's potential in life. Who is to say or predetermine the outcome.

So why blame God. HE gave us life, CHOICE, and an escape.

HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST.

Once we CHOOSE to go astray, it is on us.

Unless you would like me (or someone) to move in and control the rest of your life.

You have been enlightened today.

What are you going to CHOOSE to do with this new information?

The heart of men is evil - not God. He is good and He loves us. The Bible says "The heart is deceitfully wicked above all things, who can know it." Men have turned from God and went their own way - not God's way. That is why there is so much suffering and evil in this world. God did not intend for it to be this way. I pray you find the Lord Jesus Christ - He is the only way to change hearts.

Yes, I would want there to be a God, and here's why:
God is like any other parent. (Good) Parents attempt to direct their children which way to go in order to lead a productive life, but understand that ultimately, it's up to their children.
I know I made some horrible decisions, that harmed me, and could have potentially harmed others, and it hurt my mom terribly.
But unlike parents who punish their children when they do wrong, we have a way out. When children ask for forgiveness from their parents, they're still punished. When we ask forgiveness from God, and we try our hardest to not do anything that would displease Him, our debt has been paid.
That is, according to Christianity it has.
Yes, people do horrible things to themselves, and to others.
Don't you think that if there is a God, that it hurts Him to see His children act that way? But God has respect for us, and allows us to make our own decisions.
Many choose to do evil, and they will be repaid in kind (if God exists). Many choose to live good, righteous lives, and THEY will be repaid in kind.
Don't blame God for evil. Blame people.

i would say yes. and i want (if i can) a god who does not allow evil to take place.

hmm, If we do have free will, then by right, we are supposed to be in control of our lives right? therefore accountable for any goodness or shitness that we do. But wait a minute, if we are in control of our lives, how come he knows what we are going to do? i believe its all planned by him. and we will soon realize his glory, want it or not, at the end of it all (judgement day) . after all, we are his creation. we have no say whatsoever. he gave us the capacity to do evil, but dun do it!! haha.. its like having the money to buy yourself an ice-cream, but choose not to and instead buy a bowl of salad. (hmm, bad anal analogy.. whatever)

just submit , and be a good boy / girl so we wont go to hell.

everybody is afraid of HELL cos, hell means pain. In psychology, you can control anyone with fear. so i guess the element of fear is inescapable in religion. to keep us in the 'right path'

THE PROBLEM is, we are all confused. and the sad thing is, no one knows the truth tho they say they totally believe its the truth. this confusion is. making us hate and kill each other because of the disparity in our own religious beliefs.

i hope this would suffice. ts just my print of view

You poor tattered soul, I love you and God does too. Read the Bible; just in the first book of the Bible, which is Genesis, God made the world perfectly, but then and now the Devil is the prince of this world and he acts out all of these "atrocities" and please don't blame God for the sin of man
