I believe this question can be easily answered with psychology. This erratic emotional behavior is triggered by the attachment people have to protagonist (hero) of a story. Jesus was the ultimate protagonist in the bible because of his heroic act of “dying for the sins of mankind”. The child who was raised as a Christian develops an emotional attachment to Jesus and gets really offended if another person mocks their hero.

This also relates to comic book heroes and other protagonist. If a person was a fan of Superman, they usually would get very offended if another person mocks superman or draws Superman getting killed. Parents are also considered heroes to their children and are also emotionally attached to their parents and tend to get extremely upset if anyone mocks them.

What do you think about my claims? Does it make rational sense to you?

Please feel free to add to or argue my statement.

You are mistaken my friend. You are being deceived by the devil himself. I pray that your spiritual eyes will be opened and that you will see the Truth - that Jesus Christ was and is who He says He is. He is real and He is alive - He sits at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I will see Heaven - there is no doubt in me. Why do I get offended if someone mocks my Lord? Because He is my everything and I love Him so very dearly. Wouldn't that offend you? If someone you love so dearly was mocked. Of course it would - we would come to their defense. Blessings to you and I pray you find the Truth - Jesus Christ.

I think you sort of missed the whole point. It has nothing to do with a "story book protagonist". It has to do with the fact that he is our savior and that people who hold him in high regard tend to get personally insulted when you insult Jesus. Much like the Muslims do when Mohammad(PBUH) is attacked. Because when a belief in something is that strong it is an attack or a personal affront. As for my parents, yes they are my heros here but they are capable of speaking for themselves here and now. My personal favorite comic book hero was Blade but I don't mind if someone speaks negatively about him either. As for Jesus, I do not get offended when someone mocks Him or doubts Him because I know that he is also more than capable of speaking for himself, and when he does....all the ones who mock him now will be praying for his mercy and begging forgiveness. Nope..no need for me to defend him :0)

Because others have no right to mock. It's called Ignorance. If you think you're going to say something offensive, don't. It's not nice. It's not only Christians, It's anyone who is passionate about anything. What if someone insulted your intelligence or family? Would that not offend you? If not, it probably means you have no self respect.

Mocking Jesus Christ is mocking the only God in the universe. What will you do if you offend the one God?

And when I saw him I fell at his feet as dead; and he laid his right hand upon me, saying, Fear not; I am the first and the last, (Rev. 1:17).

All who acknowledge and worship any other God than the Lord the Savior, Jesus Christ, who is Jehovah God Himself in human form, sin against this first commandment. Those also sin against it who persuade themselves of the actual existence of three Divine persons from eternity. For as they confirm themselves in that error, they become more and more natural and corporeal, and at length are unable to comprehend interiorly any Divine truth; and if they listen to it and accept it, they still defile it and cover it up with fallacies.

I was brought up a Christian and I had respect for Him but I did not know Him until a few years ago when I gave my heart to Him. The reason I get upset when people mock Jesus is because of the price He payed for them. Not only death, but savage, vicious death. He did it because He loved us - He had the choice you know. He could have called any amount of angels to help him, but He chose not to. When people mock Jesus, they mock what He did for them.

Not only that, but people who mock Him do not know what they are doing and will one day pay a heavy price for making a mockery of God Almighty.

Jesus is mocked all the time and the worst thing that happens is a schoolyard fight or someone organizes a protest.

When Muhammad gets mocked, it usually leaves people murdered. Sounds like you are focusing your energy in the wrong direction.

I am sorry I did not read your details: Still-
Wouldn't you get offended if you had a brother that gave everything he had to love everyone and even died saving people and when he was gone from you, people mocked him*that's how we feel.

I think that it's because so many Christians are so firmly entrenched in their belief system that any challenge to it, ie, mocking Jesus, makes them uncomfortable. Being Christian in America is the status quo, Christians are the majority, so they are rarely if ever mocked or challenged, which is why whenever anyone ever challenges Christianity or questions it, the Christians get their panties in a twist. I also think that you make a very good point that many people view Jesus as their hero and figurehead, which accounts for the Christians overreaction, especially that of Christian teens and children.

Notice how many people responded to your comment by PREACHING? That is the standard fear response of Christians, they feel they have to reiterate their beliefs because someone with a logical viewpoint of the world has questioned their religion. It all goes along with the brainwashing that occurs in organized religion, they are all taught from a young age that their religion is the only one that is true, so they feel the need to boast their unending dedication to their church, perhaps out of their own fear of divine retribution or damnation. Deep down they doubt the validity of the church, but dare not speak it out, which is why they all have to overreact to anyone who questions them in order to compensate for their own doubt.

In my opinion, nobody likes it when others mock them, their beliefs, etc. Especially religion, it`s a very touchy subject.
I`m not a Christian, by the way.

Of course Christians have emotional attachment to Jesus. Wouldn't you get offended if someone poked fun at your best friend for no reason?

Do you actually have a point, or do you always go around stating the obvious like it were some great revelation?
