I have a B.A. from a prestegious college and am currently temping as I figure out my next career move. The job is very low level - admin work at a doctor's office - and the people that I work with aren't the most educated or brightest people around. I keep my accomplishments and education level to myself as I don't feel the need to impress or belittle anyone but one 25 year old woman really irritates me. She is very simpleminded and thinks she is much smarter than she is. Due to the nature of the job, I tend to show up a few minutes late at times and she always has to mention it to me, albeit in a joking way. I try to just laugh or ignore her and but she keeps persisting. I really want to put her in her place but I know that I wouldn't feel good about doing that after I leave the job. Any advice?

I was running errands today and while waiting at a red light, I saw a couple holing a sign that read " Pregnant and homeless" I was wishing i had some extra money to give them, and thinking about how sad it was. She was visibily pregnant. The only money I had was fifteen dollars I was getting ready to put in my gas tank, because the gas light was on. So the light turned green, and my car would not go. I had just ran out of gas, and In all of my years I had never ran out of gas. I was right in front of the couple holding the sign. The man helped me push my car to the nearby gas station. I thanked him and gave him five dollars and put the ten dollars in my tank. I guess they needed that five dollars more than I did. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and that God was trying to tell me something today.

before you freak out...i live in the united states and have for a long time and i have been insulted and treated quite poorly to the point of me being extremely offended...

take this simple question i asked about the english language in the united states...i made a simple point and was very clear that i know that english the dominant language in the united states...and i made the point that i think people should learn at least the basics of the dominant language if they are residing in a country...

I am officially more Christian than most Christians, since I have actually read the Bible (several times in fact). Why do people always bash me and try to say that I obviously hav enever read the Bible, then try and quote it and write something that is not even in it???? I really cant understand why so many still cling on to the concept of a greater being at work, even in this day and age. If you would just stand back and observe for one moment, you would realize that no other war or fighting caused a greater amount of death than a religious war. If there were a greater being do you really think he/her would want you to be killing eachother for him/her? Heck, there is even a crisis going on as we speak that involves a religious campaign! Religion was simply born out of a time of desperation and a search for meaning. We humans have the ability to render people and places within our own minds and thus came about religion. You dont see any religious animals now do you? Religion is completely illogical and only causes death and suffering. Discuss...

I have noticed that many americans have talked wrongly, discriminated and made jokes about the jews even before these times of war

What is the reason? Maybe you have a reason now because the war but before all this I have heard many offenses toward them and I am curious to know the reasons even if I am very far from being a jew.

I ask this because people often describe me as "shy". But I don't really feel I lack confidence. I'd say reserved, by which I mean I don't usually go up to people I don't know and say "hello", and I'm not at all a fan of "small talk". I don't know why people always interpret this as shyness though, or why, if you're not loud & extroverted something must be wrong with you. By what criteria would you judge a person shy? Or aloof? At what point does being reserved become a social liability?

In the last year I have come to terms with my sexuality and would like to live my life for me instead of living a lie to please other people. What I would like for my friends and family to tell me is something along the lines of "we already knew." I have not had a girlfriend, ever, so it's not like it'd be a complete surprise. My mom is very open minded and I think she'd be ok with it, and my brother has already told me that it's ok with him if I'm gay and that he'd still love me. (I still didn't say anything.) I guess what has been bothering me is my dad makes derrogatory comments about gays, and the disappointment my parents will feel when they find out I won't be marrying a woman and making grandkids for them, and I have an irrational fear of rejection that I know I will have to deal with. Should I just come out to mom and not dad? I have a good idea which friends will be supportive and who won't. I want the good and the bad, and did you regret it? looking for inspiration...
