I really cant understand why so many still cling on to the concept of a greater being at work, even in this day and age. If you would just stand back and observe for one moment, you would realize that no other war or fighting caused a greater amount of death than a religious war. If there were a greater being do you really think he/her would want you to be killing eachother for him/her? Heck, there is even a crisis going on as we speak that involves a religious campaign! Religion was simply born out of a time of desperation and a search for meaning. We humans have the ability to render people and places within our own minds and thus came about religion. You dont see any religious animals now do you? Religion is completely illogical and only causes death and suffering. Discuss...

Religion is what keeps man from killing each other and bringing eternal salvation to your soul.

What causes more death? Well, death itself!!! It is certain that all in this world will face "Death and Taxes"; 100% probability with a margin of error of zero. You will die someday.

Maybe you're talking about premature deaths ... but still, disease it the number one killer, followed by auto accidents.

War ... well, money is typically the driving force behind war. Usually, a mad man will disguise his lust for money with religion; however, this is just a disguise provided by the Devil. You've bought into it too. However, if you opened your eyes you would see. Take Hitler ... he masked all that killing on "Christianity" when he didn't even believe in Christianity!!! Now that we're away from Hitlers madness, we can objectively see that his quest for War and genocide steamed from the inflation in Germany and Hitlers Insanity.

Keep on believing in what the Devil is leading you too , or go to a Church of your liking, and learn the real truth behind your religion.

This guys does have a point here. If you look back at everysingle battle that has been fought since the dawn of mankind then without a doubt, religious wars have killed more people, by far.

Also, what he is trying to say with the animals is that the human brain is far superior. Something called the frontal lobe seperates us from most other beings. This frontal lobe gives us a sense of self-awareness or in laymans terms, the frontal lobe is what makes us human. We are capable of a more complex thought pattern and so as we begin to ask why we were put on this earth we desperately try to think of a reason. A greater being seemed like the only logical choice at a time before written history and so it has stuck. Religion was only born because of the human physique.

Oh, dear. This isn't really a discussion that can be held here - it's too complicated. There are pretty easy answers to every one of your questions, and I'm sure every religion out there can explain them away.

If you're really interested, feel free to ask any person who really believes in religion. Not everyone out there is following blindly. Many people have thought about their beliefs and come to logical conclusions.

Your animal argument is weak. Animals don't have computers, either. Does that make it illogical? Either way, many religions say that animals do have their own way of fulfilling a religious purpose in the world.

Do some research, then ask questions.

Yeah...uh NO, you are miss-informed...

Why would you care what ones beliefs are or are not? Is there someone there forcing you to listen to something you don't want to hear? If so, ask them to leave, turn off the TV or radio whatever media you are listening to...((you get my point)).

The conflict you are referring to could it involve Israel? Well, that's political...not religious; although they are different religions and races. It's not about religion.

The conflict involving Iraq...that one is terrorist wanting to take over another country. The new government over there is Muslim. The terrorist are Muslim...not about religion. Again politics...

People that "claim" to be religious may cause death...but that's because of the men...women and children that kill in the name of their god. Perhaps it's the person that has strayed from their "religion." People will say anything to "justify" their actions. Can't blame that on religion...you must blame the person responsible.

It's like saying it's the guns fault that it was it was used to kill someone. It's not the guns fault...the responsibility goes with the person discharging the gun.

Grace to you and God Bless! Salvation is free and Jesus preached LOVE...

I agree your arguments on religions. In fact religions are the most dangerous social evil. But about the greater being - I tried many times to convince my self that there is nothing as such. But when I go deep into the little things I know about the universe and the living beings, it is impossible to refuse His existance.

Why He is allowing all what we see today to happen? I thInk the reason is to allow every one to prove what they are and at the same opportunity to improve. Both are allowed to play their roles in freedom. What for all this is? We need to know His ultimate aim. For that what advise I get from my mind is to wait until you know that. He may have His reason keeping it as a mystry.

None of the parents know how his/child is formed. Even the science has yet a lot of things to know. From such a minute particle and wonder is formed. I cannot believe in evolution or big bang theory as I can create another more reasonably believable novel or story like that.

Go placidly amid the noise
And the haste and remember
What peace there may be in silence?

As far as possible without surrender
Be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly,
And listen to others,
Even the dull and ignorant,
They too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
They are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself to others
You may become vain or bitter,
For always there will be greater
And lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as
Your plans, Keep interested in
Your career however humble;
It is a real possession in the
Changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
For the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you
To what virtue there is;
Many persons strive for high ideals,
And everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself, especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
For in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
It is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years gracefully
Surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture the strength of spirit to shield you
In sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself
With imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue
And loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline,
Be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the
Trees and the stars: You have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt
The universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you
Conceive him to be; and whatever your labours
And aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life,
Keep peace with your soul.
With all its shams, drudgery and
Broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

people make the mistake of fighting wars for a god but that does not mean that a god does not exist.
and the idea of a god is logical. to think that we were created by something more powerful than us is completely logical, especially if any form of advanced science or philosophy does not exist. and it makes sense to think that this being looks like us to a degree.
animals cannot make logical thoughts (can make connections to stimuli but not logical thought processes) so maybe that's why they don't have a god. if they were logical then maybe they would.
i'm an athiest, by the way.

And no you don't see any religious animals... so maybe man is not an animal?

Yep, I see eye to eye with you, and wish people would grow out of it, and do something more constructive with their lives.
