I'm a psychology major and will apply to grad schools. I'd like to go into clinical psych and work with anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship problems, those coping with grief or terminal illness, etc. I don't want to limit myself to one disorder/speciality, but see a mix of clients.

I'm worried because I know patients can be psychotic, delusional, and dangerous to themselves and others. My mom had a friend whose daughter was a therapist, and she was killed by a schizoaffective client. My professor said one of his clients pulled a knife out during one of their sessions and tried to dig out a chip he believed to be implanted in him.

I don't want to go into counseling psychology b/c I'm afraid I'd be stuck doing vocational counseling. Nor do I want to become a child psychologist; I'd rather work with a population that has the language and cognitive skills to articulate their feelings/thoughts/problems.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Serious distaste, cannot stand to even make eye contact one day, and then laughing and joking within the next few days?
Usually this applies to coworkers only. I get sick of people easily...I'm a bit of a loner....not a team player. I hate forced interaction. Anyone? Anyone?

It seems that I am just drifting through life. I do every normal teenage thing that is not stupid. I go to church and do my chores. I enjoy my life and the things in my life, but why does it feel like as if I wasn't here? Am I really dreaming? Or am I in some one elses dream thinking that I'm dreaming, but I'm not. That comes to the questions of Am I really here? or Are you guys really there? Is it just me?

My ex bf who i s29 yr old teacher, was very depressed and very suicidal. When I was with him, I told him he needed to see a professional. He only wanted my help. He would tell me over and over he was going to do it, that he bought Cyanide over the interenet, he was going to go thru with it before summer vacation was over. There were times he would hang up the phone and not answer, I didnt know if he was alive or dead. He told me never to call the police, because if he saw the police he would do it right then and there. I went through many nights with anxiety, panic attacks. Well, the reason he felt this way was becuase he had a child w/ a one night stand he wanted nothing to do with, he was ashamed. I helped him come to terms, for him to leave me for the mother of his child. Not only that, he talked about me and devalued me as to who I was to him. He told me if I need help getting through the breakup, to see a pychologist. I have, because, I feel like I lost it. Everything he ever told

Okay
I have pondered this question below in my head for some time now, and i think i have found a legitimate answer to it. But first i must inquire what you think about this and give your insight on it : What defines a smart person? Is it how they talk, how they look, what they do, anything? And please do not go over to wikipedia to answer this, as i do not give the best answer to people who choose the easiest path. What is my opinion on this? I believe that smartness comes from ones ability to solve problems, quite simply, smart people are problem solvers. Please, feel free to share your opinions on this topic. Thanks!

I have been on strattera for awhile to help me concentrate in school.
it has gotten to the point where when i take it i feel extremely angry for some reason with a strong hunger for attacking other people. It makes me feel like going on a murderous rampage.. when i don't take it i feel so tired that i cannot do anything in school and i am also very irritable from withdrawal.
What should i do?

its like im damned if i do and im damned if i don't.

All my life Ive felt like more of an observer then a participant in life..Basically I do like some people I just dont know how to make friends anymore..and the ones that I have made I always have to call to say hello,I always have to go to their place, its so bad that Ive just left off every relationship that I have except with my mother, most times I just dont feel like doing the constant and banal work it seems like to maintain any sort of relationship, lately I find myself enjoying my alone time more and more, people who enter or are around annoy and anger me for no reason what so ever other then their presence.
My family now sort of ignores me unless i make contact and even then its maybe a conversation.
and my friends are non existant,Id be ok with this but lately ive been thinking..who will be there at my funeral if Im murdered who will miss me enough to report me missing..what can I do about this..??

Is this true? I've heard it before. [I think Oprah has said it hah]
If so, how does it change them? What kind of arguing affects them? Simple yelling arguments? Or something more severe like physical abuse?
