Is this true? I've heard it before. [I think Oprah has said it hah]
If so, how does it change them? What kind of arguing affects them? Simple yelling arguments? Or something more severe like physical abuse?

And how often would it have to occur to have an effect? Daily? Weekly?

I think it is critical for social development for kids to see their parents argue, as long as they see them resolve it. Conflict and resolution is a critical element to adult life. Kids need a certain amount of exposure to debates. Now, down right fighting, name calling, hitting etc. should not be something they are exposed to. It could teach boys that they are to behave that way, and girls that it is o.k. to be treated that way.

Any physical sign that their parents do not get along upsets children and can have many affects, from creating insecure, emotionally challenged children, to those who may mirror the very actions they grew up with. Children need to know that they people who are taking care of them love each other and respect each other, otherwise there can be very adverse affects.

i think it changes the way they view the world. and actually, since they aren't old enough to view the world, it forms how they view it. if they see fighting all the time (once in a while i think is healthy because they see conflict and how it is resolved, because we all know everyone fights and children need to learn that) they will believe that this is how it is once you get into a relationship and they will end up doing it themselves. or end up being scared to commit for fear it will happen to them as well.

in some ways emotional abuse is worse than physical because there are no visible scars, no way to show it happened.
