If these are nothing more than repetitive thoughts, then one technique you can try is thought stopping. Basically, you set yourself a small amount of time and you sit there and relax. You allow yourself to start thinking the deviant thought - once its established, you yell out "stop!" (or get someone else to do this) and you immediately switch to thinking about something else. Its important that you engage the stop at the instant moment the thought establishes itself i.e. you don't think about him for half an hour before pulling the plug.
You then take this exercise into your everyday life and train yourself to mentally yell "Stop!!" when the thoughts return. Hopefully, in time, this will disperse and gradually eliminate the unwanted thoughts.
Obviously, it won't be productive if there is an underlying reason to the thoughts (i.e. lingering desires, or trying to come to terms with something traumatic).

Erase him from your mind by erasing him from your life.
Ever hear the phrase "Tidy desk, tidy mind"? It's the same kinda thing.
Get rid of any things that remind you of him, or any songs or any photos.
Stop seeing him socially, if you do.
Get something new to occupy your time. A pet or a hobby maybe, or even better a gorgeous new man!
But if you're not interested in him, is it such a problem to think about him? If you stop worring about it, you might just forget to think about him.

Worry like crazy!!!! But from your point of view go out and meet new people - join a club - poetry club dancing classes - do an evening course sommething that you are most interested in then you meet people with the same interests as you and get chatting to them and communicate with them regarding the homwork and you have met some very new people.

It hurts right now, but in years to come, I'd want to remember because that will have helped shaped you to who you are.
I did this with my ex - I threw away all pics but kept the negatives, I am just now reprinting the negatives so that I can remember my past. It is 2007 and we broke up in 1997.
Don't erase your past because you won't be the same person you are ten years from now as you are today.
And it's a wonderful feeling.

Trying to erase one out of my mind would etch ones memories deeper into my mind. It is better to let time heal the mind. Ignore the person even in your thoughts and soon there will be better thoughts in the place of the one you wish to forget.

I'm still trying to get over someone I used to be involved with, and it will be 6 years this summer since we parted.
I do think that involvement with other people and getting active in life--social,political, volunteering, etc, helps.
I guess for some of us it just takes longer to be completely over that special person.
I hope time eases your heart.
Good luck.

In jokes and riddles, I'd say you rub him out.
In this category, I'd say: You don't have to ERASE him from your "mind". You will think about him once in awhile, perhaps, for as long as you live.
What you must do is REPLACE him with someone else, in your "heart". You can't continue to desire him.
You see?

The reason you can not forget him is because you don't want to forget him,is that make sense?
