hypnosis does not TRULY work, what it does is cause people to believe they are happier or don't have an addiction or whatever they're using hypnosis for. so after the hypnosis session they look for things (and do things) that prove their predisposition correct.

therefore, in a liberal sense, it does work. in a literal sense, no.

If you're familiar with hypnosis, then you've no doubt heard of Master Hypnotist Steve G. Jones. His book, "Ultimate Conversational Hypnosis" has been voted as the best hypnosis course ever made. The book is also available in electronic format at: http://www.hypnosistocontrol.net

If you want to get an edge in everyday communication and lead other people towards your goals this is a must read.

Is Hypnosis Real

Sorry, but of all the thing that I do believe, hypnosis is not one of them. It's fake, don't bother with it, forget that you've ever heard about about. I'm being serious here, it doesn't work, the human mind can not be hypnotized, it CAN, however be manipulated, but, sadly, that is a whole different story.

Hypnosis is a real thing, the trick is, you have to want to be hypnotized. Hypnotism more leaves you susceptible to the powers of suggestion.

I can only speak for myself and I've tried the self-hypnosis thing and I've gone to many sessions with a "hypnotist" and it didn't do a thing for me. Your mileage may vary.

Hypnosis is arguably REAL, and un-REAL... because we're dealing with the unconscious mind. There is no such thing as hypnosis, until we create it... and then it is real. However, you don't have to believe in hypnosis, for it to influence you...

The unconscious part of your mind does not know the difference between REAL, and un-REAL... a good example is dreams... many people may have dreams, that are absolutely ridiculous, yet while they're dreaming them, it feels real, they can't tell the difference. This is because the conscious mind is functioning very little, and the idea of REAL (which is a conscious construct) is not there. You then wake up from your dream only to slap yourself for being so dumb, how can you possibly have believed that was real?...

Hypnosis is simple. It is the act of accepting suggestions/ideas/beliefs at the unconscious level. Period. We do it ALL THE TIME. In fact, by the time you're finished reading this, you will probably be hypnotized in ONE way or another. You will either believe what I've written here, and ACCEPT it as TRUTH... or you would have said to yourself "this is stupid... I don't believe a word of it". Either way you're accepting an idea.. be it MINE, or YOURS and "hypnosis" has taken place. Therefore, it's funny to think about the people who say "I cannot be hypnotized" or "hypnosis isn't real"... because they are by definition hypnotized (by either themself or whoever told them so) that, that is the case. You could also however, leave your mind open, and consider the possibilities while not accepting anything as false or true... and just consider... or better yet, begin to study influence and find out for yourself what I am telling you ;)

The act of being "hypnotized"... is also simple... and people do it all the time. It is nothing special, everyone goes into trances all the time, every day... it's just mis-understood by most people in western culture.

I will give a few examples of common everyday trances, so that hopefully you can identify with at least one of them...

Have you ever been reading a book, and you got so into the book that the environment around you, seemingly faded away.. and you were transported into the words, the book became your world... someone may have been around you talking to you but you didn't consciously notice them... things are going on all around you, but you don't consciously notice them... that's a trance.

Ever been watching TV, and gotten really absorbed into the show... really enjoyed it.. and then all of a sudden a commercial pops on? ... you watch the commercials for a couple minutes and someone comes in and asks you what you are watching... and you can't remember? It's on the tip of your tongue but you just can't remember.. then it comes back on "OHH YEAA!".. the show 'hypnotized' you.. or put you into an altered state... Amnesia is a great indicator of your state of mind altering.

Many people will drive down the road... and they'll drive... and drive... and all of a sudden their mind will wander into thoughts.. things they are planning to do.. or remembering a special time in their life... the thoughts become so foremost in their mind... and before they know it, they've missed their exit.. or they 'wake up'... and can't remember having driven as far as they have.. Trance.

People will be on an elevator... standing there with their eyes locked up at the numbers... watching the light change... and then the elevator stops.. makes a ding! ... and they begin to step off the elevator.. only to jump back on because it wasn't their floor.... Trance.

Ever been sitting at a stop light... and it turns green, but you're still sitting there? Where was your mind? Trance.

By definition, a DAYDREAM is a trance.

Do you play an instrument? If you play well, or even not so well, but well enough to play somewhat fast... what happens if you consciously think about EVERY note you're going to press? You mess up... or you play very slowly and it sounds bad. Many people play beautifully when they're alone, but when it comes time to play in front of other people.. they become self-CONSCIOUS... they start playing with their conscious mind, and totally blow it. Playing an instrument can be a trance of it's own.

A trance is just an altered state of consciousness... which is simply - a different state of mind than the one you were just having. When a person is 'hypnotized'... they go into what is called a 'hypnotic trance'.. which regardless of the words hypnotists use "SLEEP" .... it is not sleep.. it is actually a more focused state of awareness... like daydreaming... and while a person is in this state, the conscious part of their mind (and/or unconscious part) that passes judgement, can be set aside.. much like while you're dreaming... so that REAL/un-REAL blurs together... and everything suggested can easily become TRUE for you.

It works on every human with a pulse. There are 'resistant' people, who are under the impression that it's a matter of dominance... the hypnotists willpower versus theirs... which isn't the case at all... it's more of a "how powerful is your own mind? powerful enough to make these adjustments?" kind of thing. Some people are under the impression that only stupid people can be hypnotized... It's actually the opposite. Since traditional hypnosis is all about the subject following instructions, if a person is too stupid to be able to follow simple instructions, they won't be 'hypnotized'... at least by that hypnotist. The more intelligent, the more imagination and better mind/body connection you have with yourself, the better subject you will naturally be... and everyone can be 'hypnotized' it's just a matter of methodology.

Many people are under the impression they can't be 'hypnotized'... this usually comes from the idea that they think their mind is so 'strong' they can resist anything if they want... and it's true. They can if they want to... but they also have to know what to resist before they can resist it. A person might also believe they can't be hypnotized because a therapist, or hypnotist TRIED to hypnotize them, and failed... and instead of them taking responsibility for being a lousy hypnotist, they put the blame on the client and say "you cannot be hypnotized" ... that is just another way of saying "I don't know what the $%^& I'm doing." It's easy to resist a stage hypnotist, or a clinical hypnotist who hypnotizes people using a very DIRECT method, you just say "no" to yourself as you listen to him/her. There are other ways... such as indirect/covert/subliminal techniques which anyone who can comprehend communication will respond to. Some of my best subjects are those who strongly believed no one could hypnotize them, they were SO SURE of it! And they are often the easiest of people to 'hypnotize'.

If you stare at something long enough, you will go into a trance.. your thoughts will wander... you are 'hypnotized'.. anything that grabs your attention, and holds it in a nice focused state, has 'hypnotized' you... or 'en-tranced' you. that is really the very basic. So you could hypnotize a chicken, just grab them by the legs, and turn them upside down... their attention gets so focused, they just freeze in that position. Some call THAT hypnosis.. however you couldn't really do therapy/stage tricks with a chicken, unless you had a way of communicating with it.. so it's more of a trance for the chicken ;)

This has been a brief explanation to give a very basic understanding... for more detailed and accurate information be sure to read my blog in my source list below... I've written it to inform, clients/subjects, and anyone who wants a genuine education on the subject... and nothing mythical, no hocus pocus... and yet, ALMOST.

A good place to start is this article explaining the difference between the conscious/unconscious mind:

And then move onto the article about the "Critical Factor":

This will really bring about a greater understanding of firstly WHY it's possible.. and then HOW.

This is all written by me, so feel free to comment or ask further questions should you not understand something.

I hope this has helped you.
