Gender Studies - October 2007

The shorter male lifespan; the fact that the great majority of violent crime is committed by males; and the incredible rate of young male suicide. Are we ashamed to admit our gender is weak in some areas? Or do we only want to discuss things we can blame on feminists?

I'm thinking of anti-feminists who use words like "equity feminist" vs. "gender feminist", equalist, and masculinist when they complain about feminists or feminism.

It looks to me like a signal that the person is not going to ask or argue or discuss something in good faith.

When I read someone using these words in here it usually looks to me like they are trying to distract and decieve and fool people into thinking that they are trying to be fair. Or try to pretend that what they are saying is not sexist or hating on feminists when it is.

What does it look like to you?

Does anyone else think that women's lib has been taken advantage of? I know it's a sensitive topic but think of it logically. Like when a woman pleads and begs to get a construction job but then complains b/c the work is too hard. I am in full support of women who can do the work though. I am just curious to hear other views on the subject which is a bit "taboo" (in my opinion b/c it always leads to a heated argument). I've noticed that women fight hard to get treated the same way but then fight when they aren't given an extra edge. I understand having to raise the family, work, and see to their SO. My full support ladies - honestly.

guess how i want to cut it to brass tacks and ask why does it appear that the main supporters of women's lib are hypocrites?

I barely had any headache since I started my puberty, while my little sister keeps having headaches every month. she also moans a lot when she gets cramps. I never got any cramps, my other male friends also didnt. only girls have this problems, but not boys. its not fair. not to mention pms. my sister almost killed me while she had pms. boys never get so wild cause of something like pms. and embarrassing erection that boys get I dont count cause its too easy to hide. so boys are enjoying their lives, while girls are suffering. its not fair that girls have all those cramps every month, while boys dont have anything. boys are only worrying about penis size and thats it, while girls have to go through all those problems with uterus.

and getting kicked in the balls doesnt counts, cause its hurts girls to get hit in the breasts, so we are the same on this one.

A lot of women will have several men that want to date them in their lives that they just string along for the attention, favors and ego boost.

Isn't it messed up to know someone has feelings for you and stay friends with them and give them hope that one day you will date them when you know you never will? They are wasting time they could be using to meet a woman that actually likes them.

Have you noticed that very few men do this to women? Men are not usually friends with women they don't like.

NOTE: If you make it clear that you have no interest and probably never will thats ok. But not when you say stuff like.."I don't know.. I'm not ready for a relationship now". You should say something like "I'm not attracted to you" or "your not my type." Then if they stick around, thats their own fault.

I don't know what it is, but I love men (and not just in a sexual way either). I love to be around men. I love talking to men and asking them their thoughts and opinions, not just flirting. I find it easier to get along with men than I do women and I relax when I'm around men. (With women I'm always worried about what they really think and looking for hidden meanings in what they say, like I'm just waiting to start an arguement or fight. I don't do catty comments and I'm not into having "frienimies".) I feel like I'm the only girl who feels this way though. When all my friends are bashing guys I'm always the one who's defending them.
I guess my questions are:
1) Is this normal?
2) Am I the only one who feels this way?
3) Can anyone give me a reason why I feel
this way? I have no brothers, my male
cousins live 900 miles away, and my dad
and I have a normal relationship (I'm not
"daddy's little girl" but we get along well.)

Thnx and please be nice!

I mean education.

Is there evidence that kids in America that are in low income areas have less or no sexual health education in school than other kids?

And is there maybe a racial part to it too?

Are abstinance only classes more likely to be in schools that are low income and minority?

It looks to me like that if you are white and not poor in America than you get the information how to take care of yourself not just having sex but being healthy in general.

But if you are not than you don't get that information you need from school you get preaching about your morals.

Is this fair for me to say?

So my friend told me that this guy from college has written several dirty story, using me as his main character. His novel is mainly all about his filthy fantasy, and of course lots of hardcore action.

This guy is not my bf, he's even my closest friend. I just barely know him because we go to several courses together in our college, but that's all. Nothing more. I never even get a hint that he's been fantasizing me a lot!

Should I confront this guy directly alone? Or should I tell my bf and my brother about this guy so that they could give him a lesson or two? What would you do if you're in my situation here? Would you take that as compliment?

People I know some people had asked some questions of a sexual nature, however they didn't ask those questions to be pornographic, they asked then because they want intelligent people to responded intelligently and/or to see you would answer the questions and how they would answer the questions.

even though he might be absolutely ordinary in appearance?

This happens in all fields: in cinema, sports, business...

...

Just an example...

Do you think that if Leonardo Di Caprio hadn't been one of the main characters in the movie "Titanic" (but had participated in that movie), that he would ever have been considered a " woman's heartbreaker"? (Or if any other secondary actor in that movie had performed that part, that he wouldn't have been considered "every women's dream"?...)

Or that if Brad Pitt didn't have the resume he has, that many women would remember to say he is attractive?...

...

While at this, do you think that the same happens with men (in regard to women)?

Yeah I read this topic about How women are less smarter than men, their aliby...IQ scores, To be honest I think it also have to do with opportunities, Not IQ scores. Why is it that women had barely any rights in the past and they have already catched up with us? How about it being 57 percent of women are the population in college right now? The fact that now that women have rights They are taking advantage of opportunities. I know my mom is much smarter than my dad...easily. She's also younger than him. I know most women are a little emotional but honestly I know much more intelligent women than guys....I know i'm gonna get beat up by the guys but I gotta tell the truth....I am a complete moron and my little 16 year old sister is smarter than me. I'm 23 years old lol. She's already read 6 of my psychology books and I only read 3.

You know the types.. men who think because a person is a woman they are some kind of goddess who can do no wrong and should have their butt kissed all day. OR.. men who lose their identity and opinions when dealing with women and just go along with whatever they say.

I think its pathetic and demeaning for a man to behave this way. They put women above men.

What do women here think? And if you are one of these men.. what is your problem?

You always talk about women being "empowered." Do you view a woman who explicitly uses sex appeal to get ahead in her career as "empowering" herself?

It would seem that while feminists are claiming that we blame them for every thing I have read and answered many questions where men and anti feminists are being blamed by the feminists. And if you would give an example of how to resolve this so the real work of equality can be gotten too.

The antis say that feminism is to blame for crime, poverty, gender identification confusion, destruction of family values, destruction of the institution of marriage, discrimination against men (in schools, family courts, the workforce, etc.)...the list goes on and on....and the last I heard somehow we're responsible for global warming......

Your thoughts?

I've heard feminists say that more women suffer domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year. Many even went so far as to suggest that the Super Bowl should be eliminated entirely. Do you feminists here agree with that sentiment?

How do you deal with it? Do people act up because they are intimidated sometimes? What does it really mean?

I just saw a post discussing intimidation and I thought I could as well ask :)

Why can’t men and women work together to make a better society for humanity instead of fighting amongst themselves over which sex is superior?

Also instead of blaming either sex for how the world is today; why not come up with a solution on how to solve the problems we face as a civilization? I m so sick of the battle of the sexes, I wish we could all just get along with each other. Will we ever get over our reprehensible pride of which sex is "better" and work together as human beings??
