How do you deal with it? Do people act up because they are intimidated sometimes? What does it really mean?

I just saw a post discussing intimidation and I thought I could as well ask :)

It can be romantically, socially, work-related, age-related, intelligence-related etc. Whoever/whatever intimidates you.

Puma: LOL @ must be lonely at the top!
Maybe some people just don't get intimidated, I know I do though, on a regular basis in different situations by different people, but you rarely see it :)

I could be a tough girl and say very few intimidate me, but I am actually intimidated the most by intelligent females.

At first when you asked this I though to myself, hum I am not really intimidated by anyone (less a scrappy bunch of chica's at a bar since I tend to speak my mind more often then not). But then I thought about my insecurities and who brings them out the most, hence intimidation, and I realized that strong, intelligent women are probably the most challenging for me. Not that I don't consider myself somewhat intelligent (and obviously very honest!). Also its not like I wouldn't seek out an intelligent women as a friend, I have many smart, beautiful friends. Its just that over anyone, I would have to say an intelligent women is the most intimidating.

you asked, and I spilled the beans

maybe I am going WAY out on a branch here, but come on people, NO ONE intimidates you??? must be lonely at the top!
not meant to offend, I just must be an insecure little twit. jk

Only really explosive and/or violent people intimidate me, but I will not let them see that. In situations where I'm dealing with someone like that I am calm and appear focused and unafraid (even if I am intimidated on the inside)...I've learned that if you fight fire with fire, you only fan the flames (the problem escalates), but if you react with the calmness and serenity, and you do not raise your voice (talk quietly and slowly), you have a calming effect on the other person. It really works! If someone's angry and yelling at you, and they have to pause and be still in order to hear what you are saying, you've usually just diffused them long enough to de-escalate the situation. Sounds simplistic? It is. Is it easy to do? Heck no....our gut instinct tells us to fight back with the same "ferocity" (or more) as the person who is intimidating us. Or, we instinctually want to get away or avoid or escape someone who's bullying us (usually this doesn't work either because the bully will follow, and he/she now knows he's got power over you...they like to incite fear, that's how they control situations and people.) Best to throw the bully completely off guard by doing what he/she does not expect at all: for you to remain cool as a cucumber and assert yourself without stooping to that person's level.

The ones that used to were people that had a high level of self-confidence, usually too attractive, or too strong, or something along that level. But I am no longer intimidated by anyone.

Anybody in a supervisory role at work intimidates me. I've always had trouble with supervisors. It stems from my father being so "over the top" at times.

Police can intimidate me... I mean, I do nothing illegal, but I hear so many cases of cops gone bad.... that I just try to avoid them at all costs. I watch a lot of those forensic files and every other damn files there are...

Strong, confident women make me cringe and hide under the bed in the fetal position.

I admit that I tend to be shy around good looking/beautiful women, but not intimidate. No one intimidate me. I only fear God and God himself.
