Does anyone else think that women's lib has been taken advantage of? I know it's a sensitive topic but think of it logically. Like when a woman pleads and begs to get a construction job but then complains b/c the work is too hard. I am in full support of women who can do the work though. I am just curious to hear other views on the subject which is a bit "taboo" (in my opinion b/c it always leads to a heated argument). I've noticed that women fight hard to get treated the same way but then fight when they aren't given an extra edge. I understand having to raise the family, work, and see to their SO. My full support ladies - honestly.

guess how i want to cut it to brass tacks and ask why does it appear that the main supporters of women's lib are hypocrites?

outta here - I do understand your point and I am sorry that you had to go through all that. My sympathies and I'm really glad women's lib has worked out for you. KUDOS! My only point being was why is it sometimes taken for granted? I am grateful for all the things I can do b/c of the movement. I am also a divorcee and have been turned down for many things - though the exucse was a glossed over version of "high risk". Thank you for the answer but please note that I wasn't bitching mearly making an observation.

ok brass tacks..

I believe that rights come with responsibilities. I think that every feminist who I have met agrees with me in that.

Re what you are saying about women taking advantage of womens liberation, I see people say it happens and complain about it but I have not seen it.

You and most on here are too young to recall how it was for women before 1960's and the womens movement.

Try this. Unable to get car insurance when I divorced...in a state where it is Mandatory!..Why? Because I was considered "high risk" being a divorced woman. My ex had not problem - even though he had totalled 3 cars - all his fault.

Or this. Unable to get credit in your name - only your husbands name.

Or this. Were able to be laid off or fired if a more needy qualified male came along and wanted your job.

Or this. You had NO control over your own body. You could not use contraceptives without your husbands permission. Your husband had the right to all information from your own doctor - before the doctor talked to you about it.

Or this. If you were employed and became pregnant, you could be fired.

Or this. You could not hold down jobs that could be done by a men.

Or this. You had to have your husbands permission to get a driver's license.

Don't talk to me about women's rights and feminists.....count yourself lucky you are living when you are...where equality is primary.

I do agree with "outta here" and "Alexandra".
We've comed so far and there are lots of jobs out there that will welcome you on board no matter what gender you are.If you choose to ride with the boy,you already know what's involved. You can either be one of the guys(been capable to do what is required of you to do)
or don't try to do things that you can't do just to prove a point. Then later on complained about it(because you got fired and felt like they should be lenient because you're a female).

Your mixing the group and the individual. The individual identifies with the group, the group represents a category of people, and not much more. The individual's though, while belonging to the group are not the group, and as individuals suffer from many vices common to all humanity. I think it is wrong to blame an individual for not meeting or even taking advantage of the allowances given for membership of a group.

Yes, I do think some women are misusing feminism. The point was to give us equal rights AND equal responsibilities. Those who only want the former are more interested in not being discriminated than being equal.

I'm still wondering...liberation from what, exactly.

As far as the construction thing...that's where I'd be saying, you thought you could handle it, so handle it.

it's same thing as with blacks and gays - they want equal rights but reduced responsibilities (since they are mis-treated, disadvantaged, etc.)
