Is it propellers? Paddles? Mississippi-Steamer type wheels? Some bionic design, emulating penguin's feet? I'm trying to find the implement which will translate the highest percentage of the horsepower I produce with whatever means (muscle power, electric motor, diesel, who knows) into propulsion in the water.

It's for a boat project. I want to build my own boat, and I want to build the most efficient, possible drivetrain for it.

Thanks!

I am unfamiliar with English units. What is the relationship between pounds-mass and pounds-force?

If, say, you were to calculate a force needed to accelerate a tank or something and the weight (pounds-force) was known, you would simply divide by the gravity acceleration (32.2 ft/s^2) to know the pounds-mass?

I think there is. I wached someting about the Stealth bombers invisibility to Radar. Because, the waves just break up after hitting it. Due it's angular design. But, isn't it possible to hear it coming. Using somekind of modified sonar technology or maybe it can be seen with specially positioned infrared telescopes ?

The irish have a reputation for being 'Thick' (hence the Irish jokes)
however, most of the Irsh people I have met have a far above average IQ. If this invention proves to be a disaster I can see the humiliation the irish people will go through so wonder if it was a good idea for the inventor to come out with the idea until it had been assesed and tested by the recognised authority.

Hello all,

I need to get a small electronic device (gathers weather data) into the air 1200+ ft and then have it slowly parachute down to collect data. A weather balloon won't work because it is too slow moving as it ascends and will deviate its path based on wind/rain conditions. It can't have a small rocket engine (no ordinates allowed) and would preferably not need a person to man it, i.e. an RC plane/helicopter would need a pilot on the ground. I am running out of options and hoped some people with more experience could offer up some suggestions. Any ideas are much appreciated! Thank you!

I think so. They should bring back the Twin Towers. Maybe make them taller and resistant to airplane attacks. We should not allow terrorists to redesign our skylines. By building nearly identical Twin Towers, although it may be a bit eerie and haunting at first, it would send a message to terrorists that they have no lasting impact on America.

I will be controlling the inputs of these XORs directly from a PIC
output, both PIC and Logic powerd from the same regulated +5V. I have
two choices:

ST's Single XOR 74V1G86STR in a SOT23-5L
http://www.st.com/stonline/books/pdf/docs/5735.pdf

OR

Fairchilds Tinylogic UHS Single XOR NC7SZ86M5X in a SOT23-5L
http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/NC/NC7SZ86.pdf

They are both astonishingly similar:
both have a VIH minimum of .7 @ 5V
both have a VIL maximum of .3 @ 5V

The Tinylogic can provide up to -+ 24mA at output
The ST can provide a minimum of 8 mA at output

The XOR's output is directly connected to the two Reset pins on a 556.
Hence when the XOR goes high, the 556 begins oscillating. When the XOR
output goes low, the 556 goes back down to outputting 0V.
